Paul Stam: Hit man

At this week's meeting of the North Carolina City / County Management Association, the dark shadow of Paul Stam haunted the hallways. Fresh from a new kill in Apex, where one of his lieutenants stripped abortion coverage from the city's health care plan, he's mounting a crusade to force North Carolina's city and county governments to become part of his political agenda, demanding that they follow the path of Apex, where one white middle-aged man knows more about what's good for women than women themselves. The county managers apparently told Stam, "thanks, but no thanks," and good for them. They deal in health services day in and day out, and they know the high personal, social and public costs of unplanned pregnancies. The city association seems to have taken a wait and see approach.

The argument involves whether it's county and municipal health plans to cover medical abortion. Stam says public funds can't be used for that purpose. But Stam is also fond of saying "public funds" is just another term for taxpayer dollars. It's "our money" not the government's, right?

In that case, Mr. Hit Man, I want "my" taxes to be spent on health plans that cover abortion.

Politics is blood sport for Paul Stam. If a few women have to suffer under his heel, he couldn't care less.
It seems to me that Hackney and Basnight may need to make Mr. Stam an offer he can't refuse.

Interesting choice of words

" If a few women have to suffer under his heel, he couldn't care less."

If a few women have to suffer? Even you would have to think that some might say that more than the woman would suffer.

Some might say almost anything

I mostly keep an eye on what I say, not what some might say.

hard to believe

After reading your comments on this site I find that hard to believe - that you keep an eye on what you say and not on what others may say. LOL

Believe?

That's the great thing about freedom. Anyone can believe what they want without the slightest need for evidence, proof or facts. Maybe you're a mind reader, but I'm not. When someone actually does say something, I'm happy to take that on. Otherwise, it's just gossip.

Some may say that a person who uses "some may say" as a way to make a point are projecting. Not me, of course.
