As we head into the final days of the primary election Roy Carter is working hard to bring his message to the people in the 5th district. One thing has never been more clear- Roy Carter is the exactly what we need in Washington.

In the Democratic race for the 5th District U.S. House nomination, and the right to face Rep. Virginia Foxx, the Journal endorses Roy Carter, a retired teacher and coach who lives in Ashe County. Having grown up in the Northwest mountains, and having taught and coached in Ashe, Wilkes and Surry counties for many years, Carter knows the district well. He has been running a well-organized, energetic campaign, demonstrating skills that would serve him well in Congress.

Roy Carter is also the best qualified candidate to take on U.S. Rep. Virginia Foxx in November. Foxx really needs an early retirement from Capitol Hill, where she has done nothing more than make the people of the Fifth District look foolish for electing her in the first place. Carter, a retired coach and educator, has the kind of small town values and common sense ideas that characterize many in the vast district. He should be able to connect easily with voters and convince them that it is time for a change.

Exciting things are happening every day! Today Roy is wrapping up the second leg of his 12 County Tour with stops in Rockingham, Surry, Stokes, Davie, Iredell and Forsyth. I am also honored to announce that on May 15th Rep. Heath Shuler is coming to Winston-Salem for a fundraising event.

We have come so far in the last 8 months, and I can't wait for the 5 months ahead of us... as we move closer and closer to the day that Roy Carter unseats Virginia Foxx.
