Phil Haire to retire
Asheville Citizen Times is reporting that Phil Haire (D-Jackson) will not run for re-election. Haire has been co-chair of the appropriations committee, and has spent seven terms in Raleigh. Haire plans to continue his law practice in Sylva.

...but rumor mill is already saying that Joe Sam Queen may run for Phil's seat, leaving John Snow to run against Jim Davis for the Senate seat in the southwestern tip of the state.

We really shouldn't be talking about "redistricting" at all. The proper term is indeed "gerrymandering."

One name that has come up..
Retired District Court judge Danny Davis of Waynesville has come up in a report in the Smoky Mountain News as a possible candidate for Haire's seat. Heath Shuler is married to his neice.
