Philandering Republican resigns from U.S. Senate

John Ensign slinks away after two years of dodging:
Nevada Sen. John Ensign (R) announced Thursday he will resign his seat on May 3, due to a Senate ethics committee investigation over his extramarital affair with a former campaign aide.
His parents reportedly wrote a $96,000 check to his former mistress...It was later revealed that Ensign may have violated Senate ethics rules by arranging for his former mistress's husband to take a job as a lobbyist with a Nevada consulting firm in an attempt to hush the matter up.
Let the Right-Wing deflections begin: "John Edwards!" "Clinton!" "JFK!" "FDR!" "Martin Van Buren!" (I just made that one up)

Polls in Nevada show him getting his clock clean by both parties...The Tea Party Repubs decided to take him out by running their best candiate against him, since a Democrat could beat him with no problem.. Normally, when high power Republican Senators get caught in sex scandals they usually ride it out like Senator Vitter [ the dude who wore diapers when being service by the local HO's] Or even Republican women like Governor Haley of South Carolina when accuse of having sex with two of her former campaign advisers...LBJ once was quoted as saying the only sure thing to get rid of a competitor was make sure he was found in a bed with young male child. Maybe Ensign fits the profile of another Senator from Nevada..
Spradlin portrayed a corrupt U.S. Senator from Nevada, Pat Geary, in The Godfather, Part II. He insults the Corleone family in many ways, and is in turn blackmailed by the Corleone family. While visiting a house of prostitution run by Fredo Corleone, Geary is drugged and the prostitute eviscerated. Geary wakes up drenched in her blood, accompanied only by Corleone consigliere Tom Hagen and, in the background, Al Neri. Hagen calmly explains to the Senator that there are no loose strings: the prostitute had no family, and that "all that's left is our friendship", a way of telling Geary that he has only one option.
