Powerless
I'm passing through a crowded coffee shop on the way to the library. No power at home. A freezer and refrigerator full of wasted food. Minor inconveniences. A short temper.
The events of the world are helping to keep things in perspective. A few powerless days for me . . . big deal.
The people in New Orleans. The people in Blacksburg. The people in Iraq. The people in need all across this country and around the world.
I have no idea what "powerless" actually means. I have not stood in their shoes.
NOTE TO BLUENC VETERANS: April 19th is BlueNC Veterans Day. Many of you said you'd write posts about your perspectives and experiences, and I'm counting on having five or six entries to front-page on Thursday. Please let me know if you're in.

Powerful
Not quite bulky enought to post as of yet, but...
Rep. Charles Thomas (R-116) today moved that a public hearing be held regarding the mental health system crisis. The motion passed the Appropriations Committee. Thomas had his votes lined up and ready, evidently.
Now it's up to Speaker Hackney to schedule the public hearing, we're hoping for Tuesday of next week. Assuming Hackney doesn't kill the hearing, we'll need the mental health world to show up, fill the chamber, and speak our piece.

Boo who?
Jon Ham makes the following comment at the John Locke Foundation:
Only problem is, that's not what the article is about. Ham fails to understand that the article is about the slump in the CA house construction market, not about worker housing.
Why? Because illegal construction workers weren't on the books to begin with. The article was a factual account.
Ham's knee-jerk ham-fisted response is just one more sorry entry in the John Locke disinformation ledger.
Ham is a stooge
among Puppets in a basket full of them. I don't even bother to read anything he writes anymore.
Do good. Be nice. Have fun.
Powerful neighbors...
I'm surprised that your street would still be without power : )
Personally, I was back-ended by a woman today, who nearly back-ended me only seconds before. Upon pulling out from exchanging information, she veered onto the median and nearly back-ended someone else. I called the police but I doubt they caught her. So, I spent my morning at the shop and while I was there getting my registration, inspection, oil change, tire rotation done.
Everything seems fine, kids are okay, it was just a little bump.
One man with courage makes a majority.
