Rep. Sue Myrick voted NO on HR 5749: Emergency Extended Unemployment Compensation Act of 2008
Rep. Myrick voted NO to extend unemployment benefits for NC workers
Harry Taylor Responds to Myrick’s “NO” Vote on Extension of Unemployment Benefits, Calls It “A Blow to North Carolina Families”
Charlotte, NC (June 13, 2008) – Harry Taylor, North Carolina’s 9th District Democratic Congressional candidate, responded to Rep. Sue Myrick’s NO vote against extending unemployment benefits for North Carolinians who are suffering in the wake of our troubled economy.
“Rep. Myrick shows no concern for her constituents who are simply trying to survive these hard times. The jobless rate in North Carolina has exceeded the national average by nearly 10%, gas and food prices are at record levels and climbing, and foreclosure rates have skyrocketed. Mrs. Myrick’s vote shows how truly out of touch she is with decent American families who are fighting each day to make ends meet.” Harry Taylor, Candidate for US Congress, NC 9
Congresswoman Myrick voted NO on Wednesday to extend unemployment benefits for an additional 13 weeks. The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office estimated that the bill would give aid to 3.8 million unemployed workers. Republicans like Myrick who voted no did so in support of President Bush who wants to veto the bill. Labor Department statistics released yesterday showed the national unemployment rate in May jumped to 5.5 percent, the biggest one-month gain in 22 years. The financial services, textile, and manufacturing industries, major employers in the Charlotte metropolitan area and the 9th Congressional District are being hit particularly hard. The unemployment rate in North Carolina for April stood at 5.4 percent, its highest level since 2005, and higher than the national average.
“It’s clear that Mrs. Myrick is a lot more interested in supporting President Bush and his failed economic policies than she is in the welfare of her own constituents,” continued Taylor. “Sitting in her Washington DC office, she is out of touch with her district, and more importantly, the people she was elected to serve.”

Rep. Myrick has no problem spending hundreds of billions on war, but North Carolina families will have to do without a 3 month extension of unemployment benefits! Unbelievable!!!
