Report Voting Problems to 1-888-687-8683 (888-OUR-VOTE)

Hey all,

Phones are ringing off the hook here at Democracy North Carolina, even with our toll-free Election Prootection Hotline going straight to the good folks at the UNC School of Law.

To report voter intimidation problems or any other problems causing people to walk away and not vote, please call 1-888-OUR-VOTE, which translates into 1-888-687-8683 for you cell phone users. Some examples of what we have dealt with so far today:

-- A broken tabulating machine in a large county, line forming, people starting to walk away without voting, pollworkers not knowing what to do. Alerted BOE, asked our volunteer pollwatcher to inform people they could continue to vote and ballots would be held in a special bin for that purpose until they could be counted; machine was quickly fixed once we alerted county BOE.

-- Local organization given conflicting information about whether you can distribute sample ballots; then given instructions for being able to do so; then instructions changed on them at the last minute after they had printed their sample ballots. We made some calls; sample ballots are now being distributed. An organization MAY distribute sample ballots, but they must be marked prominently as sample ballots and the usual campaign disclaimers about who authorized and paid for the sample ballots must be included on them.

Some good traffic out there at the polls today -- definitely higher than your usual mid-term election. That's good to see!
