Richard Burr struggling with irrelevance

Senator Richard Burr appears to be struggling with the polls that keep returning the news that most North Carolinians don't know who the heck he is. A United States Senator and he might as well be their UPS delivery person.

His poll numbers would probably be higher.

A few weeks ago, Burr responded to the early polling results:

"I think it's ridiculous to go through hypothetical head-to-heads," Burr said.

"The next election is not even something I'm thinking about. Nor should I, until I know who I'm running against," he said.

Burr said he hasn't run any of his own polls yet.

"Why should I poll?" he asked. "I don't know who I'm running against."

He thought it was so ridiculous that he immediately contracted to get a poll in the field. I guess it's only ridiculous if someone else is doing the polling, right?

Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) — who has been battered on a near-monthly basis by poor polling numbers — finally released his own survey this week that reveal the messages he is testing for his 2010 re-election race.

Burr’s poll, which was in the field June 15 and 16, showed that more than half of North Carolina voters disapproved of the job that Congress is doing under Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) and Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.). Further, the poll found that more than half of voters preferred a Republican Congress to “act as a check and balance to keep the Democrats from going too far” over a Democratic Congress that would “help President Obama enact his agenda.”

Although Burr’s poll showed him winning in a race against Democratic Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, the survey question was not a standard head-to-head ballot test but was instead preceded by questions about which of the two could better serve as a “check and balance on the policies of President Obama.”

Stay tuned for Burr's next poll where they ask respondents the really tough question: Is Richard Burr kinda OK?

Polling? Who me?

It's almost like Burr did polling and forgot to tell himself he was doing it! Very funny.

"The next election is not even something I'm thinking about. Nor should I, until I know who I'm running against," he said.

Hahahahahahaha!

Burr question

Does anyone think it's even worth bothering to contact Burr about healthcare?

Burr answer

Couldn't hurt. I've been emailing him daily. Called once but my blood pressure was rising too high too fast while I was on the phone, so I'm sticking to email ;-)

Yes. The anti-choice people are calling Hagan

Call Burr. At least don't let him say he hasn't heard from many proponents of a public option.

...and by anti-choice people here I mean, people who think giving Americans a public option they could freely choose to buy into, or not, is a really horrible idea. How do they cry, with a straight face, that

1) government administered health insurance is substandard supercostly health care that will leave us all waiting years for surgery,

and then turn around and cry that

2)government administered health care will be so well loved by Americans that we'll all jump ship from private carriers and bankrupt them?

logical disconnect, anyone?

"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."

Cal Cunningham speaking in Wilmington next Saturday

Speaking of potential candidates who have polled well against Burr...

The YDNC has confirmed that Cal will be speaking at their Summer Meeting at UNCW on Saturday the 27th at 11am.

I understand that Ken Lewis has also been invited.

My note to Senator Burr

This is roughly what I wrote.

I encourage the Senator to abandon his corporatist history and vote for a robust public option as part of the nation's health care mix. I also invite the Senator to join us at BlueNC for a live-blogging session on the issue. We have questions.

I look forward to your response.

Burr doesn't know who he's running against?

Answer: Himself.

He is the most Deerintheheadlights guy I ever saw when it comes to anything more substantial than "Honey, get all the money out of the ATM that you can."

Saw him recently on the TV being asked about the Republican's big roll out of their Healthcare plan. I swear all I remember about it is "tax cuts" or did he call them credits? He's supposed to be the R's savior on this?

Progressives are the true conservatives.
