Roger Sharpe and the Winston-Salem Journal
Today's Winston-Salem Journal has a very disappointing article: http://www.journalnow.com/...
It basically says that most NC Republican incumbents are safe because they are raising so much more money than the challengers.
That may have merit, but why play the story that way? There is no polling data to back up the claims, for one. And also, why not applaud the Democrats for their willingness to to challenge the status-quo against all odds instead of simply writing them off?
Now, I don't know much about every House campaign in NC.
I realize that Larry Kissel (NC-8th) and Heath Shuler (NC-11th- the only challenger mentioned by name in the article) have strong support, but I do know that Roger Sharpe (NC-5th) has made his funding a part of his policy.
Sharpe's opponent, Virginia Foxx, has taken every dime thrown at her by every PAC, lobbyist, and special interest with a checkbook. Roger's campaign is anathema to that entire premise.
I'm sure Roger Sharpe has been approached by many tentacles with dollar signs attached. But his philosophy is that you cannot clean house with mud on your shoes. Therefore Roger has refused any and all PAC money on principle.
Is that politically naive? Maybe. Is it a noble act? Absolutely.
Roger's primary argument, aside from the obvious flawed policies emanating from this Congress, is the the GOP incumbents are bought and paid for.
Roger doesn't want to be beholden to anyone when elected except for the Unites States of America and the constituents of North Carolina's 5th District.
Isn't that a story in and of itself? Yet Roger doesn't even get a mention.
Accepting PAC and special interest money has become an unfortunate yet necessary evil in today's politics. Therefore I make no judgement of Democrats who do accept the funding in order to get their foot in the door.
But with the Netroots gaining so much ground, they shouldn't have to, and those who refuse that money at least deserve a special mention.
Thanks for listening to my tirade, and check out Roger at www.sharpeforcongress.com

Crowbar
You need to send this as a letter to the editor. That's one way to get the word out and more people read the LTEs than read the durned articles.

Vote Democratic, the ass you save may be your own.
What SD said, Crowbar.
Please do send a LTE to every big and small-town paper in NC-05. You've done the hard part -- writing the letter. All you need is a map of NC-05 to find the addresses and websites of the newspapers. Be sure to leave the URL for Roger's website in there so. :) Go get 'em, Crowbar!
"They took all the trees and put them in a tree museum Then they charged the people a dollar 'n a half just to see 'em. Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone? They paved paradise and put up a parking lot."
Crowbar, here's a link
