Rucho: Obamacare worse than Nazism, terrorism

Wow. Just...wow.

Comments

Oh My....

Nazis,Soviets & terrorists combined.

When you can throw all those in together into a "compacted" sentence you hit just about all the triggers for the Tea Party paranoid - except the poor folk.

Actually, he's right

In his own twisted way, he's right - except that all the things he mentioned showed that the Republican world-view is delusional bullshit.

Isolationism touted by Republicans before World War II probably made that conflict last much longer than it should have. Republican paranoia about communism drove us down a path of needless military spending and came damn close to starting World War III. Republicans combatting terrorists like a "holy war", rather than a criminal matter, caused us to go into needless conflicts, increased terrorist activity, and pretty much bankrupted the country.

Now, Obama's health care initiative may be one of the things that drives a coffin in Republican brand.

So, yeah, it's the end of the world - or at least the Republican party - as they know it.

To think that people elected this guy

This has the makings of another national embarrassment for The Old Backward State.

"than" the swords

First learn the English language, then you can post slightly less ignorant Tweets. And while we're (for some strange reason) on the subject of swords, it's as good a time as any for some safety tips:

:) Tripp Fisk is the man.

Other media catching up with this story

BlueNC gets the scoop, but The Daily Beast, Charlotte's WCNC and The Charlotte Observer all picked it up [edited to add: and ThinkProgress, with a link back here! and Crooks and Liars and FreakOutNation. And several others, and spreading in the blogosphere.

No comment from Bob though.

Updated WCNC story

While Rucho remains in hiding, Charlotte's NBC affiliate spoke with Catawba College Provost and political science professor Dr. Michael Bitzer:

He noted that the responses to the remark on twitter have been nearly “universal condemnation,” and it would be hard for a politician to recover from such a comment without a quick apology.

“It's just a snowball effect, and the longer they delay acknowledging or apologizing for it, it only gets worse for them,” he said.

Bitzer said Rucho needs to “acknowledge the fact that he misspoke and used a TERRIBLE comparison between probably the most horrific events in the 20th century, and now into the 21st century, to try an attack a public policy.”

But Sunday night, Rucho’s only tweet praised the Panthers.

“Another great day in the Carolinas,” he wrote at 7:12 p.m. “The Panthers win in the land of life, liberty and where all can pursue their dream of happiness. Period.”

And more

Welcome to the Charlotte Business Journal and the Raleigh News & Observer, Bob!

As usual, NC Policy Watch nails it ("Senator Bob Rucho of Mecklenburg County has raised real questions about his fitness for public office"), as does Carolina Mercury ("As national and international news outlets get wind of this, the senator’s tweet is reaching far more people than he ever dreamed of."). ProgressNC attracted many comments.

Several aggregators and blogs are helping it go viral.

Might be just about time for a feature on Maddow.

Unfortunately

Bob sees all this attention as a good thing. So do the people who voted for him. "That's our man, Bob Rucho. He tells it like it is."

But it hurts the GOP

state-wide and overall. Even Clod Pope realizes that.
