Sen. and Mrs. Edwards rock Yancy's with Boyd Tinsley

I just got back from a fantastic event at Yancy's, the new downtown eatery and bar on Raleigh's reborn Fayetteville Street. Boyd Tinsley, the violin player from the Dave Matthews Band, introduced John and Elizabeth, and the packed bar erupted.

Elizabeth was wonderful, and she looks great, by the way. She spoke of hope and change and what she sees in John. Then she introduced John, who spoke for about 10 minutes.

This is not the same John Edwards. I greatly admired and worked my butt off for the John Edwards of 2004. This John Edwards I will lay in front of traffic for. We FINALLY have a Presidential candidate who is speaking to the issues that matter, the ones that carry real moral weight. We have a chance to elect a President of the United States who wants to do something with the office other than hold onto it for eight years.

Edwards spoke about America's moral leadership. he spoke about his heart breaking when he saw a newspaper in Europe with pictures of Katrina victims under the headline "Shame." He spoke of his plan to spend $5 billion, one one hundredth of the cost of the Iraq War, to educate every child in the world to at least the eighth grade. He means what he says, and he is saying it now with a candor and vigor we haven't seen in a candidate since 1968.

The guy is on fire, and the rest of the field better watch out.

You still have three hours to give on the East Coast. Go do it. Help send the message that John Edwards is coming, and he's on a mission.

By the way,

I was good to see Robert P. there.

I got to meet Congressman Bonior and shared a few words with Secretary Marshall and former Congressman Valentine.

I encouraged Secretary Marshall to run for Senate. She smiled.

The band is still playing if you want to catch some of it. Tinsley is outstanding, and the band is TIGHT.

it was good to see you as well.

My friends came away encouraged and convinced. I got to introduce my wife to Mrs. Edwards and the Senator and she was thrilled to meet them both, but like most people she was nervous around the senator.

The first time I met him I believe I said "It's nice to....pass by you in the hall." My take on it is this, sometimes when he meets you he looks you in the eyes with this intensity that says:
"I am extremely interested in what you have to say....Go."

from this.

SIOUX CITY, Iowa (AP) — If President Bush vetoes an Iraq war spending bill as promised, Congress quickly will provide the money without the withdrawal timeline the White House objects to because no lawmaker "wants to play chicken with our troops," Sen. Barack Obama said Sunday.

"My expectation is that we will continue to try to ratchet up the pressure on the president to change course," the Democratic presidential candidate said in an interview with The Associated Press. "I don't think that we will see a majority of the Senate vote to cut off funding at this stage."
