Shuler Is Really Raising His Profile
Introducing the President during his first major faith oriented event while in office is a great way to endear yourself to voters all across North Carolina. Heath Shuler gets Bill speaking for him last week. Now, he's speaking on behalf of Obama. I hope he's giving his staff a raise, recession or not.

Obama and Shuler
I've been thinking about how to promote more Democratic candidates who can work effectively across lines of difference. I think this is one of the main characteristics that people appreciate about Obama.
I wonder if Shuler fits this mold? I understand that he is a bit conservative for some Democrats. But Obama is a bit progressive for others. Can Shuler become the type of candidate who can bring people together across that ideological divide? Across our state? Across our nation? Across races? Across classes?
Good questions.
Reaching "across" is a tough challenge for right-to-life politicians who take a faith-based approach to policy.
Tough yes, but is it tougher?
Is it any tougher than it is for a pro-choice candidate?
Perhaps Shuler will pick other issues for building bridges.
