Dear Democrats in Congress and President Obama,
We, the undersigned, vehemently oppose the health care and clean energy legislation you are considering this year. This is a democracy and you must to listen to us, your constituents, the everyday people of this great nation.
Let us be clear: if you continue to pursue passage of this legislation, there will be consequences at the ballot box. We remind you that in the last election we were the ones knocking on doors, making phone calls, attending the political rallies, and giving campaign contributions to the Republican party and Republican candidates. Therefore, you cannot ignore us.
In 2008, we worked tirelessly to support candidates such as Senator Norm Coleman in Minnesota, Senator Elizabeth Dole of North Carolina, and John McCain for President. Your vote on these matters will dramatically affect whether we return to participate in next year's election.
It is extremely troubling to us that you and President Obama campaigned last year on health care reform and investments in clean energy - and you are now attempting to pass those campaign pledges into law. This is simply unacceptable and we demand that you, the Democratic majority of Congress and President Obama, cease and desist from enacting your platform. If America wanted real clean energy investment and real health care reform, you would have been elected by much greater margins.
We, the undersigned members, voters, donors, and officers of the Republican Party, urge you to abandon the platform you are pursuing, and campaigned on last year, and adopt the full agenda of the Republican Party.
This is a democracy and you must listen to the people who worked to defeat you and who will attempt to defeat you in coming elections.
