Speaker Tillis, your word now means nothing
Apparently honesty is not on the GOP agenda:
House Minority Leader Joe Hackney asked the House Speaker Thom Tillis if there was anything other than those two bills due to come up during the afternoon. Hackney was assured there was nothing else coming.
Sometime after that conversation, Tillis informed Hackney that House Republicans wanted to reconsider the health care bill veto.
You Republican House members need to sit up and take notice, too. When a person becomes comfortable with telling lies, it's only a matter of time before he begins lying to people he claims are his friends.
And in case anyone wants to argue in his defense because he didn't try to force another override vote, that rule change vote wasn't on the agenda either. So that "nothing else coming" was still a lie.
But Tillis isn't the only Republican leader prepared to lie to get his way. Taliban Stam has got one perched on his lips as well:
As a matter of procedure, House Majority Leader Skip Stam will ask to change his vote on H2. He’ll then be on “the prevailing side” and would then have the power to move for reconsideration.
A House built on lies and deceit cannot stand for very long before its stucture begins to fracture. That's my Zen message for the day.

Be like Art
A pack of liars from the top down. And make no mistake, the "top" is Art Pope. Everybody else is just a paid foot soldier, otherwise known as a mercenary.
A lot of the stories on this topic are missing a key point
This story for example.
No one has a problem with a motion to reconsider.
It's the Speaker allowing someone to change their vote to then allow that person who voted on the losing side to move to reconsider a vote.
That is the nefarious deed here.
Beyond his lies about scheduling (which was bad enough), Tillis has now established a horrible precedent for any future Speaker of any party.
The institution of the NC House was diminished yesterday.
It took Speaker Hackney years to rebuild trust in that institution, and Speaker Tillis just flushed it in an instant.
Tillis doesn't care
about the integrity of the House, just like he doesn't care about the thousands of North Carolinians who will suffer under his misguided lawmaking. It's all about the size of his gavel, which is another symbolic lie of the imaginary penis type.
I was going to add "It's the only wood he can wield", but there are some things you just don't say on a blog. ;)
Char-O editorial page beatifies the Liar Tillis
In an orgy of immoral linguistic and mental gymnastics, the Charlotte Observer somehow writes that Thom Tillis did a good thing last week in the NC House.
Absurd!
Key passage (emphasis mine):
I guess reaching back 40 years -- before even Liston Ramsey held the Speaker's gavel -- is what the courtiers at the Char-O editorial board had to do to justify this tarnishing of the institution of the NC House.
This disgrace in 2011 justified by a disgrace in the 1970s?
Shame on them all.
