Thanks for posting the dates, Ed

As I understand, March 11th is the only day to hold the precinct meetings this year, with a make-up date of the 15 th...I'm assuming that means in case of bad weather.

It's become clear to me this past year why officially organizing precincts is so important beyond the obvious GOTV. The precinct chairs have other powers to influence local appointments and of course to influence party resolutions on down the line. This can be critical in advancing progressive values.

Progressives are the true conservatives.

That's it exactly.

And...organizing a precinct is one thing. Keeping it organized is another. I get so tired of people showing up at that annual meeting, and never showing their face at a Party event again.

We're going to hold an earlier "get to meet fellow Democrats" in our little precinct before 3/11, so that when 3/11 rolls around, it won't be so hard to pull a quorum.

I'd like to report that Jerry Meek is awesome.

He called the Town Manager at my town hall that didn't want me holding my precinct meeting there and VOILA! they are not only allowing it but waiving the 50.00 fee.

Ah, it feels so good to be supported from above for a change.

Progressives are the true conservatives.

Awesome!

Where do you live?

If you live in Mecklenburg County, I can understand why he did this. Mecklenburg was a mess for a while.

Why...

...do we have to have all precinct meetings at 7 p.m? I can understand the same DAY, but not the same time. Is this something the party should discuss for reform in the future? I mean, I'd love to make pitches for my man Marshall Adame at several big Demo precincts Tuesday, but they're spread out, and by the time I do a pitch at one, it's almost surely too late for another. Does anyone know the reasoning behind this... Probably I'm just naive and unknowledgeable, but I'd love an answer...just so I can know.

DNC Rules, I believe

All delegates that will determine the delegates that will determine the delegates that will go to Denver have to be chosen at the same time to prevent electioneering.

Thanks...

Sam...I suppose that makes sense. But it's also impractical and counterproductive...Oh well, at least I know the answer...

There are ways to reach many precincts at once ...

Not DNC rules but......

.....NC Democratic Party Plan of Organization rules. Many make no sense and the whole POO should be changed from top to bottom to remove the ambiguity and conflict within parts of the POO, as well as parts of the POO that made sense in Mayberry but not in counties with 200 precincts like Mecklenburg and Wake.

I don't know about you, but here in Wake County, if we had to pay to rent each and every school, community center, church and club for between $50 to $200 for a couple of hours at each of 200 precincts, it would cost between $10,000 to $40,000 - not including the cost of the precinct packets. What about the cost of re-renting those buildings for the precincts that don't make quorum, or that just can't seem to get organized?

I can think of much better things to do with $10,000 to $40,000 than paying rent for two hours once a year.

And what with filing deadlines just a week or two ago, does it make sense for a candidate to have that many people recruited to speak for them at meetings spread all over their district? One guy here in Wake County would have to get 60 volunteers to cover each precinct.

John Brooks and P.R. Latta have been trying to modernize the POO for some time - this business with Charlotte/Mecklenburg is proof that it should have been done years ago.

on getting more people, and there are a few who will be helping. What else can you suggest, Sam? Phone calls, possibly?
