It doesn't take a genius to see the practical way out of our budget conundrum. But then again, it does take at least a few brain cells, which we seem to be lacking in Raleigh.
STOP THE FREAKIN' TAX CUTS
Even if tax cuts for the wealthy were "fair and justifiable," which they're not, we simply can't afford to slash those revenues. And every time Dollar or Rucho or any of the other "number crunchers" whine about shortfalls or unexpected spikes in Medicaid costs, they need to stop looking around for someone to blame. A mirror will provide them with the answer.
By making Art Pope's tax cut the #1 priority that is sacrosanct and shall not be repealed; indeed, must not even be whispered about repealing, the NC GOP has tied their hands and can do nothing but watch helplessly as the state of North Carolina swirls around the bowl, on the way down the hole.
They wail and gnash their teeth about trying to find revenue, and they blame Medicaid or Perdue or Obama or locusts or rutabagas -- all for the lack of a mirror, as scharrison points out.
"What I see from the folks who are opposing our agenda is whining coming from losers." -- Thom Tillis
If they are adamant about maintaining Pope's tax cuts, perhaps they should look in this direction, and raise taxes on churches.
I'm good with either option, preferably both, especially since I recently discovered that not only did they raise taxes on my tiny little business this year, but because their are inconsistencies in state workman's comp requirements, I am now double insured where I need not be.
We have got to find a way to get the ignoramuses out of our legislature. If you listen closely you can hear the sound of the singularity forming around our state capital.
