Thanks for bringing this here, Max. I embedded the video so folks can watch it right here. This further impresses upon me that we have to make sure we hammer home to our representatives - be they republican or democrat - that the treatment of our troops by this neocon administration is totally unacceptable, and we will not stand for it. They should be ashamed of themselves. Heck of a job, indeed.

That doesn't matter.
Does it? Really?*Linda
Sure it does! Ask any family member and the grief that goes with it. Losing any life is always the number one concern in a civilize society. Thanks for front page of the story.......

I meant that it didn't matter if the veterans were from this war or from another time period. My friend Julia was a veteran, another successful suicide attempt by a vet. Suicide shatters the lives of the families it touches. That it is attempted at such an alarming rate by our veterans is beyond words.
And if this pain has touched you personally, Max, my heart goes out to you.

I know you did! No problem! I was thinking in General terms for some who didn't understand the whole picture with Vets from different eras........It's so sad to see this terrible issue and the results.....

This is a very bad problem among many Veterans from both Vietnam era and the current OIF/OEF Veterans. Pay close attention to the so called "non-combat deaths" as this is ordinarily how suicides are labeled. The main focus this should draw is to the sub par mental health care provided from the VA. Especially the health care provided to members of the National Guard who only receive treatment for two years from the date they leave active duty; and that health care is only for deployment related problems. Some states have taken it upon themselves to assist these National Guard soldiers returning from OIF/OEF. You guessed it though North Carolina is not such a state. Our real problem is going to appear years down the road when even more of our Veterans begin to realize they have an issue they could not self diagnose when they were rushed through the out processing procedures. I can assure when I returned from Iraq the last thing I wanted to do was spend another 6 months on a military base on active duty. I can assure you that I was not the only one in my National Guard unit who felt the same way.
SHOWING THE STRESS Data from the military's post-deployment mental-health screenings given three to four months after troops' return from Iraq and Afghanistan show significant numbers of warriors reporting psychological symptoms.
38 PERCENT, U.S. Army
31 PERCENT, Marines
49 PERCENT, National Guard
Don't know why this isn't a bigger story
All of these suicides should be tallied in to the troops death toll numbers. THEY ARE CASUALTIES OF WAR.

keep in mind
That this is suicide among ALL veterans, not just ones from the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan.

It's still hugely higher than the population at large. AND - it's still an attempted (shh!) cover-up.
