Poor Stagemanager

You know it's a sad day in Puppetland when John Hood has nothing better to do than whine about the mean old News and Observer and the bullies at BlueNC. But whining he is, and it's one of the funniest things I've read in a long, long time.

Let's take it apart.

RALEIGH – I’d like to be able to claim credit for a colossal, unprecedented feat of public-relations hocus pocus. That would be quite a rush. Unfortunately, the facts would not bear out such a claim.

Not that facts are an impediment to some. Which brings me to Jim Protzman and his allegation that the Raleigh News & Observer has become a mouthpiece for conservatism in general and the John Locke Foundation in particular. Protzman, a former member of the Chapel Hill Town Council and strategic director for the Raleigh public-relations firm CapStrat, is the main founder of a blog site, BlueNC, for progressive Democrats. While the site itself is worth an occasional glance, for those wanting a sense of what some North Carolina Democratic activists are thinking about and working on, Protzman’s contributions (under the nom de plume “Anglico”) border on self-parody.

Frontpagers

With Labor Day behind us and the crush of fall politics cranking up, this is a good time to update BlueNC readers on recent developments – and introduce two of our newest frontpagers, gregflynn and Screwy Hoolie. If you’ve been around for awhile, you’re already familiar with both of these hard-working souls, so I’ll be brief.

Screwy, whose name is Gordon in real life, says blogging is a form of participation in our democracy. “I'm not an online activist or citizen journalist,” he says. "I'm a participant. I busily dog Charles Taylor because he's a specimen of Corruptus Incompetus in our Congress, and it's my responsibility as a participating member of this democracy to work towards a more perfect union."

Open thread: Un-site-ly

We've been having some trouble with the front page, so I've demoted a few entries, which appears to have fixed the problem. I'll be examining each entry to see what can be reposted to the front without breaking things again.

Sorry for the confusion.

Welcome!

The Southern Dem's good work on behalf of Larry Kissell generated a bit of coverage in the Charlotte Observer for BlueNC yesterday. If you're a new reader, thanks for stopping by our online forum for progressives in North Carolina. You're welcome to register and join the conversation!

Family

I'm not going to identify anyone in the picture save for myself. I am the short one in front on the left. BlueNC actually had 11 of our bloggers/commenters in attendance at Larry Kissell's fundraiser in Raleigh. Todd was also there, but I couldn't find him for the picture.

Isn't this awesome? OK, so I probably have a much looser definition of family than a lot of you, but I figure there's enough love to go around.
