111th Congress

NC Congressional Delegation Activity 1/26 - 1/30/09

This was a very busy week in Washington. Larry Kissell introduced his first amendment on the House floor and had it included with the House stimulus bill that went to the Senate. Kay Hagan spoke against the funding for SCHIP, but voted to provide health insurance for millions of low income children.

Committee and subcommittee meetings are picking up and it looks like the NRCC and the DCCC have already started the 2010 campaigns.

It is impossible to cover every meeting, phone call, hearing and interview our members of congress participate in and I'll do my best to give you a weekly rundown each weekend following the weeks they are in session. I'm covering Democrats. I'll let someone else take care of the Republicans.

Larry Kissell named to House Armed Services Committee takes immediate action

The House Democratic Caucus approved the nomination of seven new Democratic Members to the House Armed Services Committee and Larry Kissell is among the group. Once named to the committee, Congressman Kissell jumped right in to follow through on his promise to make the funding of our nation's military a top priority.

House Resolution 1391 will provide $6.9 million for the construction of more than 50,000 square feet for a company operations facility. Due to inflation in the construction market, this funding would have been lost without the efforts of Congressman Kissell and the leadership of Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Subcommittee Chairman Chet Edwards (D-TX).
