2012 NC Gubernatorial race

Tuesday Twitter roundup

A story that is definitely not ready to die yet:

If Myers Park Pat wants to blame somebody for why this incident is coming back to haunt him, he need only look in the mirror. He's gone out of his way to conceal so many aspects of his career (whatever that is), any information that surfaces is valuable. And when that information reveals base and unethical behavior in a candidate for Governor, the value to the voters of this state becomes incalculable.

Myers Park Pat almost became a teacher

Which, in the skewed mind of anti-government Republicans, makes him an education expert:

I have a passion for education. I attained my North Carolina teaching certificate back in 1978. My goal has always been to be a teacher, but I’m not satisfied with the status quo of education...

Of course, you could have done something about that, if you'd actually stood in front of a class and taught. That also might have kept you from cooking up stupid ideas like two different high school diplomas:

More out-of-state help for McCrory

If the NC GOP thinks they'll be able to control a Governor McCrory, they better think again:

Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell (R) will headline a fundraiser Monday night for Pat McCrory, former Charlotte mayor who is running for governor of North Carolina. The reception will take place at McGuireWoods, one of Richmond’s most powerful and influential law and lobbying firms, where McDonnell has strong ties.

No doubt this fete will be brimming with DC lobbyists. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure we won't know who paid Pat at this function until after the election.

Is McCrory being courted by out-of-state contractors?

Myers Park Pat loves to use magic words:

“You have to have a long-term visionary plan when it comes to infrastructure, and that is something we do not have in the state of North Carolina right now,” McCrory said.

The magic words in that sentence being long-term, visionary and of course infrastructure. These words have a tendency to appeal to moderates and progressives, which is why he throws them out from time to time. But here are a few more magic words designed to tickle the fancy of free market fundamentalists:

McCrory tells reporter to mind his own business

Apparently some questions are off limits to Myers Park Pat:

When prodded by Stuart Watson, a reporter from WCNC in Charlotte, McCrory acknowledged the forms do not always show the exact amount of money he makes. "Frankly, I don't think that's your business, Stuart," McCrory said.

Frankly, I don't think a candidate for Governor who continually dodges questions about the sources and amounts of his income has any business pursuing the highest elected position in the state, and any reporter who does "mind his (or her) own business" should find another business to pursue.

McCrory expands his vocabulary

I don't know what's worse; playing dumb, or actually being dumb:

He twice read Ingalls' comments, in which he said: "We have to eviscerate McCrory. There is no way to prop up Dalton enough." "I didn’t know what it meant," McCrory told the crowd. "It means they are going to open me up and take (my) guts out."

Bolding mine. Myers Park Pat is actually trying to do a couple of different things with this comment. First, he's trying to appeal to the anti-intellectualism prevalent in such a crowd, and second, he's trying to convince them he's part of that crowd. But what he's really doing is insulting the entire crowd. And causing me to have a "visceral" reaction, but that could be partly due to the grilled chicken I ate last night.

McCrory threatens tv stations, gets ad pulled

When the truth begins to hurt too much, send in the lawyers:

In the memo to stations, Foley & Lardner, a Washington law firm representing the McCrory campaign, said the ad is filled with “egregious and false statements” about the former Charlotte mayor. “Unless you stop airing the ad immediately,” the firm wrote, “we will seek all legal remedies to force the ad off the air.”

The ad is centered around Myers Park Pat's association with foreclosure specialist Tree.com while he served as Mayor of Charlotte:

Myers Park Pat gets a Primary challenger

At least he's got the t-shirts covered:

Jim Harney of Cumberland County says some fellow Republicans are mad at him for forcing a gubernatorial primary against the party's presumptive frontrunner, Pat McCrory. But Harney doesn't care, he said.

It will be interesting to see if McCrory even deigns to debate this guy. If the Tea Party has any gumption remaining, it would demand a series of debates, just to pin Myers Park Pat down on conservative issues. But I ain't holding my breath...

McCrory gears up for "Nastiest race in NC history"

I guess 1.5 million buys a lot of nasty:

“It’s going to be a rough and tumble game, and I’ve got to recognize that and not walk in like it’s good old Charlotte politics, which has always been clean,” he said.

It must have been all that "clean" politics that helped you get your tax increases passed:

McIntyre sniffing around gubernatorial run

Maybe if we don't feed this Blue Dog he'll run back to the 7th with his tail between his legs:

U.S. Rep. Mike McIntyre, a Democrat from Lumberton serving the 7th District, said he is open to the idea of running for governor this year. "And I am always open to considering broader opportunities to serve, including the possibility of governor."

Dude, I can barely generate the energy to post this diary about you, much less get behind your campaign.
