2012 NC Primary Election

Low voter turnout renews interest in IRV

It would probably have been cheaper to buy each candidate a fancy racecar and have them do 300 laps:

By mid-morning Tuesday, 10 people had voted in Tyrell County and 14 in Camden County. The largest precinct in Wake County, the seat of state government, had 23 voters. Tuesday’s runoff will cost N.C. taxpayers at least $6 million.

It cost a hell of a lot more than that; we could end up with Tea Party Tedesco superintending all the schools in the state. Here's more via our pals at NC Policywatch:

Turnout not as large as expected

This from ABC channel 11 (WTVD) on voter turnout around the state.

What is it like in your neck of the woods? My own precinct was so slow, i was the only voter present the whole time I was there to cast my ballot. I was around number 350 for a fairly large, strongly Democratic precinct in Raleigh.

I just voted, have you?

And I did it on my lunch hour, which isn't even really an hour, since there's some walking and driving and such. And I'm writing this diary after the voting thing, and I still have like 29 minutes left. What's my point? Not only was it quick and painless, but pushing that "Against" button felt good. Really good. Like, last-day-of-school, Friday-drive-home, tax-refund-check good, all rolled into one. You should definitely try this thing out.
