Andrew Whalen

Whalen ... fleas to Blue Dog heaven

In case you've been wondering why the North Carolina Democratic Party never got around to caring about progressives, this press release 'splains it all.

GOP accused of running illegal ads

Making fraudulent claims about who's picking up the tab:

The latest financial disclosures show that the North Carolina Republican Party has purchased at least $1 million in television air time, including $19, 138 for Goolsby and $37,255 for Rabon, through the media buying firm American Media & Advocacy. However, the ads being run do not bear a “Paid for by the North Carolina Republican Party” disclaimer, instead they claim to be paid for by the candidate, violating election law and subjecting the GOP possible criminal charges.

Whatever the outcome of Tuesday's election, this is one issue that shouldn't be dropped. Fetzer's been whining to the authorities about other people since day one, and it's time they took a look at him, too.

On matters involving Pantano

From the Pantano for Congress website:

..."McIntyre’s liberal friends at the North Carolina Democratic Party have chosen to fund and operate a renegade “illegal” website, FactsaboutPantano.com, to further defame Pantano and even to attack Pantano’s wife. The website does not have the necessary disclaimer required by Federal Election Law to show that it is paid for and authorized by the North Carolina Democratic Party. That’s because they don’t want to be tied to baseless accusations and distortions found on the site. However, a quick search of the “WhoIs” online directory reveals that the site is registered to the North Carolina Democratic Party and Andrew Whalen, the Party’s Executive Director. Whalen is not unknown to McIntyre after serving as a long time staffer for McIntyre’s closest congressional partner and ally, Heath Shuler."

I've got your litmus test right here

You guys are making it real hard to stomach:

The North Carolina Democratic Party is paying for a mailer in a state Senate race that calls for “bringing the Arizona immigration crackdown to North Carolina.”

The mailer was sent on behalf of Senate candidate David Redwine of Shallotte who is in a hot campaign with Republican Bill Rabon of Southport for the seat held by retiring Sen. R.C. Soles.

Andrew Whalen, executive director of the state Democratic Party, said the mailing reflected the views of Redwine, not the party, reports Rob Christensen.

Then why in the hell are you paying for it?

Whalen to Miller: Put on your big-boy pants

I haven't been much of a fan of the NC Democratic Party over the past year, but Andrew Whalen is an occasional bright spot because of his fresh way with words.

“Jeff Miller is not running for student class vice president,” Whalen said. “He is running for Congress. He needs to put on his big-boy pants.”

Considering unaffiliating myself from NC Democratic Party

It's been more than a week since the Progressive Democrats of North Carolina issued a statement and a letter to NCDP Chairman David Young asking him to champion a very reasonable request to clean up North Carolina fund raising.

Here's an audio clip of his response:

State Board of Elections Finds no Fault with the North Carolina Democratic Party [Correction]

Andrew Whalen, the Executive Director of the North Carolina Democratic Party has released a statement. It's easiest simply to reprint it.

Today, in a unanimous vote, the State Board of Elections fully exonerated the North Carolina Democratic Party of any violations of election law.

Evidence presented during the hearing indicated that the Easley Committee solicited contributions for the Party from two donors, indicating to the donors that those contributions would be used on behalf of the Easley Committee.

It was undisputed that the Party did not participate in the solicitations and had no knowledge of the manner in which the solicitations were made. The SBOE did order the Party to disgorge $9,000 representing the two contributions.
