Sponge Bob hires Army to Run his campaign! Fred Smith vows War?

Woolf Joins Orr Campaign

The Orr campaign today, announced that a Dave Woolf has signed on as campaign manager. Justice Robert F. Orr, Republican candidate for Governor, said, in a statement, that Woolf received his BS degree in Engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point and his MA degree in International Relations from John Hopkins University.

He commanded an infantry company in the 82nd Airborne Division during Operation Desert Storm and later returned to West Point as an Assistant Professor and Course Director for the Department of Social Sciences.

Woolf lives in Durham and is married with one daughter.

“Dave’s wide range of experience is what this campaign needs as we head into the final months before the primary,” said Justice Orr. “He has the vision to propel the campaign forward and his success in the business and military sector will bring the campaign the management and organization we need to win.”

*A unnamed former military Intel source said that the new campaign manager for the Orr Campaign once was in the secret planning vision division at the Pentagon developing the Iraq Mission Accomplished Victory plan.

Note! Homeland Security issue a Red alert today upon hearing of this serious threat by the Orr Campaign.

Blackwater contracts apply to relatives?

According to the NYT:

Blackwater is pursuing a bold legal strategy, going so far in a North Carolina case as to seek a gag order on the lawyers for the families of four Blackwater employees killed in an ambush in Falluja in 2004. The company argues that the dead men had signed contracts that prohibited them from talking to the press about Blackwater and that this restriction extended to their lawyers and their estates even after death.

State Department promises Blackwater Employees Immunity from Prosecution

The State Department promised Blackwater USA bodyguards immunity from prosecution in its investigation of last month's deadly shooting of 17 Iraqi civilians.

Kill the contracts

David Price has an excellent guest column in the Miami Herald today (hat-tip to the Dome). The column summarizes the legislation he's championed to make sure Blackwater and other contractors are subject to the rule of law. Along the way, he covers important facts that make this column worth bookmarking:

During the first Gulf War, an estimated 9,200 contractors accompanied 500,000 American troops into the theater of operation. We had about one contractor for every 50 troops. In the current Iraq war, contractors actually outnumber troops. A recent analysis by the Associated Press showed that our government employs more than 180,000 contractors -- many of them armed -- and just 163,000 military personnel.

Blackwater and the Orwellian Primer

Now they want us to hire them to put out fires in California while they continue to start them in Iraq. Just how does one go about putting out a fire with an AK-47? The cajones on these people must be the size of cantalopes.

Blackwater protest

I don't know about you, but the fact that Blackwater USA still operates inside the borders of our state reflects a breakdown of decency and honor among every elected official - federal, state and local - in our state and in our nation. And they aren't even paying their damn taxes.

Here's a video of a protest this past weekend where folks from Durham and Norfolk were arrested for calling out the scummy mercenaries.

Rendition, Blackwater, Katrina, Torture, Guantanamo, Iraq, Abu-Ghraib, Uncontrollable debt, suspension of Habeas Corpus, etc.

Politics in America has always been a “them” and “Us” sort of event. We have so many different outlooks and avenues of expression and thought. Political philosophy, social engagement, citizen responsibility to government, as opposed to government obligation to its citizens, political correctness and how it effects our societal morays and values is today, as always, wonderfully debated and the list goes on; yet somehow those differences have helped to make us the great people we are, which has in turn forged the social Democratic miracle America still is today.

Opposing thought and spectrums, with a shared love of county, liberty, freedom and rule of law have been the hallmark of American political discourse. We all love this county and our opposing thoughts, with few exceptions, have never really challenged that principle.
