Good News When It's Rare - Part 2: Goodwin, BCBSNC Agree on Historic Refunds
Submitted by Wayne Goodwin on Tue, 09/28/2010 - 7:49amSeveral months ago I penned - typed? - an entry entitled "Good News When It's Rare". In the news these days, particularly with election season bringing out some of the worst in various folks, good news is often overshadowed or crowded out.
Well, in case you missed it somehow, some of the best news in a long time happened last week and it involved historic insurance refunds I announced totalling $155.8 million for 215,000+ policyholders, savings of an additional $14 million on premiums, cutting of filed rates for certain health insurance policies, and a special visit I made to the White House.
And kudos as well to BCBSNC CEO Brad Wilson for his leadership and partnership, as well as to my agency technical experts, in making this success come about.

Us vs. Blue Cross in tug o'war over Kay Hagan, who's cut volunteer legs out from under us
Submitted by MsSpentyouth on Sat, 10/31/2009 - 9:17pmCrossposted at DailyKos.com
Just as did millions of other North Carolinians, last week I received the four-color, glossy mailing from Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina that featured a preprinted postcard addressed to Sen. Kay Hagan letting her know how much we Blue Cross Blue Shield subscribers hate the idea of a public option.
As did thousands of others, I marked up the wording on the postcard and took advantage of BCBS's generous offer to pay my postage to let my senator know how fully I support a public health-insurance option.

Blue Cross Blue Shield NC (BCBSNC) versus Obama's Universal Health Care
Submitted by kkielty on Wed, 06/03/2009 - 6:35pmRecently the Washington Post printed a story saying BCBSNC was launching an anti-Obama advertising campaign against universal health care. The article said that the advertising campaign was going to show long lines and poor health care to depict what universal health care would be like. Like you I pay too much for health care with a $10,000 deductible.

BCBS of NC Exposed: Health Care Coalition Releases Report on Lack of Competition in NC's Market
Submitted by hbayard on Wed, 05/20/2009 - 12:32pmBlue Cross Blue Shield of North Carolina controls 53% of our state health insurance market. Together with United Health Group, our state's #2 insurer, these two companies control 73% of the market. With this kind of "competition," is it any wonder our insurance premiums have risen 75% in the last ten years, 5.3 times faster than our wages, squeezing families and small business alike? There is a severe lack of competition in North Carolina when it comes to health insurance, which mirrors the picture nationally, according to a new report released today by Health Care for America Now:

Why can't health insurance have this option in North Carolina?
Submitted by usernamehere on Tue, 03/17/2009 - 8:44pmAs you all probably know, North Carolina is very restrictive about creating pools of health insurance, but why?
No reason that a statute change by the General Assembly can't fix. So, which legislator will step up to file the bill to get this done this year?
If the Maine Chamber of Commerce can do this, why can't North Carolina?
The better question is why aren't chambers of commerce (and other associations) in North Carolina advocating for this change?

BCBSNC agents aka, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina get creative with health insurance
Submitted by kkielty on Wed, 03/04/2009 - 4:48pmAs you all know health insurance in North Carolina is getting crazy expensive for individuals and company's. I have a friend who works for BCBSNC aka, Blue Cross NC and he was telling me about a creative solution for couple's.
What you do is instead of applying for insurance as a family, and claiming a large $10,000.00 deductible, you apply as individuals and each of you only claims a $5000 deductible. Get this they cost the same, and the likely hood that one of you will hit the $5000 deductible is much greater than either one of you ever hitting the $10,000.00 deductible.
I know this is only good news for some of you, but since I am always searching for affordable health insurance idea's I will keep you informed.
