Burr

Vote for Elaine Marshall!

Dick Durbin has launched his Challenger Contest and he is pledging to help the winner -- they raised $100,000 for Democrats in '08, so this could be a big boost to the campaign.

Please vote for Elaine Marshall today:

Thanks,

Burr vulnerable

Despite Burr's big money advantage, this seat is in play. And if the prevailing mood among voters remains anti-incumbent in November, NC might have two Democrats in the Senate!

We need to do everything we can to get out the vote!

More Bad Poll Numbers for Burr

The Civitas Institute, a Republican think tank in North Carolina, released new polls this week in two GOP leaning state senate districts that found Richard Burr with approval numbers way under water.

In SD-45, which ranks an R+10 on the organization's Partisan Index (similar to Charlie Cook's PVI), Burr's approval is only 33% with 43% of voters disapproving of him. In SD-50, which is an R+6, Burr's numbers are similarly bad at 29% approving and 39% disapproving.

These polls were conducted by SurveyUSA. If they're finding Burr's poll numbers to be that bad in Republican friendly parts of the state I can only imagine how poor they would look statewide.

What a friend you have in Richard Burr

Via email from NCDP

Today, Senator Richard Burr once again stood with a partisan minority in voting to block unemployment benefits for thousands of jobless North Carolina workers. Fortunately, the measure reached the 60 votes necessary to overcome an attempted Republican filibuster, thanks to bipartisan support. The bill also included short-term funding for other important programs such as Medicare payments to doctors, COBRA health benefits, and flood insurance. Last month, Burr was one of only 19 Republicans to vote against the short term benefits extension, which had previously been held up for several days by Senator Jim Bunning of Kentucky.

Is Burr in trouble heading into November?

Senator Richard Burr is holding on to his dubious distinction of the cycle’s most (only?) endangered Republican Senator: A new Rasmussen poll has him under the 50% threshold against Secretary of State Elaine Marshall, though he leads 47% to 37%. Against former state Senator Cal Cunningham, Burr is ahead by a larger 50% to 34%.

What's Burr Going to Run On?

I'm just Curious! Is he going to run on that Piss Poor Lame excuse for a Health Care Plan one of his staffers put together? I was reading Karl Roves comments form the Q&A with The N&O and one thing was crystal clear to me. Rove really doesn't think Burr can win.

Burr is Washington, Not North Carolina. Burr represents everything that is Wrong with Washington. Burr has done absolutely Nothing for the State. Burr Supports Tax Cuts for Big Corporations and Small Weak Government in a time where people want their Government to Respond to this crisis not back away from it.

I mean seriously, how can a Small, Weak Government tackle the Huge Problems this Country Faces? The people want results

You can't reduce our problems down to a Talking Point like Tax Cuts and Small Government. Get Serious and come up with real solutions.

If Burr is re elected he'll see it as a Mandate for him to continue doing what he has been doing, and that's nothing.

Bank Run Burr still backs funding for ineffective abstinence education

My wife got a letter from Senator Burrs when she wrote to inquire about his misguided enthusiasm for abstinence only sex education.

I believe it is important that we promote safe and healthy choices to our children, as well as focus on protecting them from abuse and teaching them to reject inappropriate sexual pressure. I believe an appropriate abstinence program reinforces these values and allows age appropriate discussion of contraception, with abstinence promoted as the only option that is 100 percent effective.

That's a Five Burrs Letter if every there was one. Not only is he whining about runaway federal spending, he's also supporting a program that has been proven utterly ineffective and actually counterproductive.

The LA Times doesn't understand Senator Burrs either

Story here. Reasonable people agree that precautions should be taken to keep psychologically impaired individuals from buying guns. In the enduring debate over gun regulation, this has been one area of consensus. That's why it is difficult to fathom legislation proposed by Sen. Richard Burr (R-N.C.) that would make it more difficult to keep guns out of the hands of veterans who have been deemed mentally incompetent by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.

Burr and Foxx are bad enough, but Liebermann is a nightmare

Sometimes I wake up in the mornings thankful for certain things. Today, I'm thankful I don't live in Connecticut because it would be embarrassing to be from the same state as Joe Liebermann after his latest.

Has there ever been more of a two-faced, self-serving jackass to hold office before? (Rhetorical. I know there have been plenty, including our very own Dicky Burr and Ginny Foxx). But Lieberman is re-writing the record book for scumbags who would sacrifice their grandmothers for another term in office. God knows what he would do for a leadership position. Has anyone looked up his financials and figured out what the healthcare insurance companies are paying him?

Hard to believe this guy was on a Democratic ticket at one point not too long ago.

Federal Reserve Transparancy Act

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Federal_Reserve_Transparency_Act

So far only two NC Democratic representatives have cosponsored this legislation, and Hagan has yet to co-sponsor the Senate bill.

It's just shameful to see Republicans dominating this issue when really it is Democrats who proclaim to be champions of transparency and regulation for out-of-control financial institutions.

This is the kind of legislation that everyone should be supporting. It was introduced in the House by Ron Paul, and has over 290 cosponsors. All Republicans have signed on, along with many Democrats.

The Senate bill is currently standing at 27 cosponsors, and was introduced by the progressive/socialist Bernie Sanders of Vermont. Yeah, a bill introduced by a an avowed socialist has been cosponsored by Burr but not Hagan. What the heck?

Burr at Senate Health Committee today

See the Senator argue about health reform and get taken to task by another member.
