David Young

Young stepping down, Parker stepping up

Change of leadership definitely coming for the North Carolina Democratic Party:

State Democratic Party Chairman David Young, whose party took a drubbing last month, announced Wednesday that he would not seek another term as party chief.

David Parker, 56, a lawyer from Lake Norman, immediately announced his candidacy for the job. Parker is a veteran of Democratic politics. He is a member of the Democratic National Committee and a former party first vice chairman; he managed Sen. Terry Sanford's 1992 re-election campaign.

The $46,000 question is (it was $64,000, but we're in a recession): Is this going to be a bonafide election, or has this David been chosen by the Chosen to replace the previous David?

Accusations of / Actual Impropriety of / Wake Dems, and David Young and Andrew Whalen

Since I am apparently "suspect" as a new Blogger (although not a newcomer) to BlueNC, suspect despite being an elected Wake County Party officer and a former Democratic Nominee for office in 2006, let me just say this:

As mentioned in a previous post, I did not air "dirty laundry" as a first choice of venue for exposing the problems in the Wake County Democratic Party. I did send try to file an official complaint with the State Democratic Party in April, 2010. It was sent to the Chair of the Council of Review, who could not act on it (for correct procedural reasons), but he forwarded it on to David Young and Andrew Whalen for any action the State needed to take.

Truth to Power: Corruption in Democratic Party

I am reluctant to put this online, as I am not even sure I can legally, for a couple of reasons: 1) I am a Democratic Party officer in Wake County 2) will it be considered libelous? But here goes, as this is something many of you are confronting in your areas, too, I am sure.

I wrote earlier about the new creation of the "Coordinated Campaign" by David Young at the State Convention in July. I said in my post in July that I was just as afraid of our internal mechanisms in the State Democratic Party's Plan of Organization being side-stepped, as I was of Art Pope and his Republican posse. I sincerely, though regretfully, meant that.

Is David Young the progressive leader we need?

Since his election many have asked why this man. Now he has a situation at a trailer park in Weaverville, NC.

Earlier this week, David Young, the chairman of the N.C. Democratic Party and the owner of the Eden Glen Mobile Home Park in Weaverville said the orange-colored water he charges residents for is safe but “not pretty.” Oh, and for those who refused to pay the bills because the water is so nasty? The people who may want a word with the park owner after their water was cut off?

“I don't manage it (the mobile home park). … I'm just an investor there,” Young told our paper.

Dear lord.

You're not just an investor, David; you're the owner, along with your wife, Leigh. It's on the legal papers.

Mr. Young can't even tell the truth about his holdings, how can we trust him with our party?

The lights are on but nobody is home.

I drove by Godwin House this morning and it looked like the lights were on but nobody was home.

Like him or not, Jerry Meek left the party in good shape when he stepped down. In much less than 2 years David Young has reduced a well oiled North Carolina Democratic Party machine left him by Jerry Meek to a barely functioning wreck.

Where the NCGOP had their people at many polling places handing out stuff on the " conservative judges" we had no such help from state headquarters. I could go on and on and on but it just makes me mad.

Bev better take control of this mess and put people in place that can do the work and pull this party out of the sink hole we now find ourselves in.

As for David Young the only words I can find that fit are those that Winston Churchill called those terrible words. The words of Oliver Cromwell to the Long Parliament.

“You have sat too long for any good you have been doing. Depart, I say, and let us have done with you. In the name of God, go!”

Considering unaffiliating myself from NC Democratic Party

It's been more than a week since the Progressive Democrats of North Carolina issued a statement and a letter to NCDP Chairman David Young asking him to champion a very reasonable request to clean up North Carolina fund raising.

Here's an audio clip of his response:

PDNC CALLS FOR THE FIGHT AGAINST POLITICAL CORRUPTION

PDNC banner

PDNC has released a statement today that calls for the North Carolina Democratic Party to lead the fight against political corruption. We have invited Party Chair David Young (see letter here) to join us in making sure that the necessary reforms are put into place. We need to make sure that the scandals that have discredited our party in recent years--with the revelations that have surfaced in the Easley hearings being just the latest outrage in a string of far too many-will not continue to damage the Democratic Party or the democratic process.

Heath Shuler is out again

Rep. Heath Shuler is NOT running for senate:

"I am not running for Senate," the second-term Democrat said after a ground-breaking ceremony for a new building at the Bent Creek Experimental Forest Station in Asheville. "I am not running for Senate. I am not running for Senate. I have said that a thousand times, and I don't know why they keep coming up (with the idea). Of course they keep coming up and running polls."

So why would people think that Shuler was running again after he repeated a thousand times that he's not running against Burr?

Young <3 Shuler - updated

If I were still giving money to the North Carolina Democratic Party, I'd sure has heck be stopping after reading this comment from David Young:

Young told the Times-News Tuesday that he had not spoken directly with Shuler, but believes it would be positive for Western North Carolina if Shuler ran against Burr. "I think he would be a fantastic candidate," said Young, a former Buncombe County commissioner.

Young to Dome: the NCDP is neutral.

David Young on Rachel Maddow

David Young
David Young was just on the Rachel Maddow show and I must say he represented the Democratic Party and the State of NC very well. I hope that he can find other reason to show up on TV and put the NCDP on the map.
