Romney's 'binder' story challenged by Massachusetts women

this is from McClatchy News:

In response to a question about unequal pay for women at Tuesday’s debate, Romney said that as governor of Massachusetts, he made “a concerted effort” to find qualified women to serve in his Cabinet.

“I went to a number of women’s groups and said, ‘Can you help us find folks,’ and they brought us whole binders full of women,” he said.

That’s not exactly what happened, according to the nonpartisan Massachusetts Government Appointments Project, or MassGAP. Romney didn’t request the binders, the group said in a statement Wednesday.

Romney stumbles, then lies to cover his ass once again.

Small Business lies...and more.

I spent some time looking over the most recent census data and the IRS data on who pays taxes and how much. It's difficult to take sets of big numbers and come up with something reasonably accurate. And, I'm well aware of the story about the guy that drowned in a lake that averaged 18 inches deep. But, here I go...

Fun in the trenches ...

With three weeks to go ... with the second presidential debate tonight ... with a close race that can be won ...

I've been spending many hours in a couple of neighborhoods off Buffaloe Road near the 540, canvassing the peeps. I think I've spent 18 or so hours walking around, ringing doorbells, and pestering people to get their butts off the couch and go vote early.

  • I tell them how close the race is, how we can still win if we get our vote out and Rmoney doesn't get his out.
  • I tell them how we won a razor-thin victory in '08, just 14,000 votes.
  • I tell them they're now part of my personal Obama Army, and to go find other people and tell them to vote.
  • I tell them where and when One Stop Early Voting is, and answer any questions they have.

Then I fill out a form for every voter, so OFA HQ can keep up. Three hours at a time, I walk these neighborhoods till my feet hurt and my back hurts and my legs hurt, and I can barely climb back in my car to go turn in my forms. I can't even describe how much fun I'm having.

THE HILL: N.C. Dems debate the meaning of 'covered in oil'

N.C. Dems debate the meaning of 'covered in oil'

By Sean J. Miller - 04/15/10 10:46 AM ET

North Carolina Senate candidate Cal Cunningham seemed to be channeling Jimmy Buffett at a Democratic forum in Raleigh Wednesday night.

When the topic of offshore oil drilling came up, Cunningham said: "If you go swimming in the Gulf of Mexico, you come out covered in oil."

One of Buffett's most famous lines is, "Nibblin' on sponge cake, watchin' the sun bake, all of those tourists covered with oil."

Attorney Ken Lewis (D), one of Cunningham's main rivals for the nomination, was quick to pounce. His campaign promptly called for Cunningham to "apologize" to the governors of Florida, Mississippi, Louisiana and Texas for his "'covered in oil' slur."

"I think Cal has been listening to too many Jimmy Buffet [sic] songs: That's not what he meant by 'all of those tourists covered in oil,'" said Bruce Clark, Lewis's campaign manager.

McCrory at NC Gubernatorial Debate: More TeeVee, Less Education!

Isn’t it enough that voters had to endure one “Law and Order” candidate, Republican Fred Thompson?

Patrick McCrory, NC Republican candidate for Governor, opened up Saturday’s Gubernatioral debate by repeatedly asking why North Carolina can’t be more like the teevee shows, “CSI” and “Law Order.” Lauding teevee shows for providing “DNA test results in minutes,” McCrory complained that North Carolina District Attorneys can’t afford to shop at Neiman Marcus:

“On Law and Order, the District Attorneys are dressed like they shop at Neiman Marcus.”
