BJ Lawson gets tricked by a true free-enterprise entrepreuneur

By now, you've heard that BJ Lawson's claim that Morgan Freeman narrated one of his political advertisements is false. Whoever narrated the ad was not Morgan Freeman, who has denounced the Lawson ad.

The Lawson campaign says that it was tricked by a California-based media company that "approached the campaign and offered to produce an ad with Freeman".

I have no idea if Lawson's account is correct, but, it makes me kind of proud of my native state even after 30 years of living in North Carolina.

I'm also kind of tickled that Lawson was apparently tricked by just the sort of free-enterprise entrepreneur that he thinks should run free of government regulation.

Why Doesn’t Republican State Auditor Les Merritt Want People to Vote?

State Auditor Les Merritt is politicizing his public office for partisan gain, following the national Republican playbook of deception and incompetence.

Merritt stalled last week the passage of legislation that would make it easier to vote. It allows voters to register up to three days before Election Day, down from 25 days under existing law.

Citing a flawed preliminary report, Merritt asked for a delay on the same day that a state Senate committee was poised to take up the bill.

Merritt also used an analysis similar to that employed by the Republican-led federal justice department, the same agency that urged North Carolina to prematurely scrub qualified voters from the rolls.

Thieves break into N.H. Dem headquarters

By HOLLY RAMER
ASSOCIATED PRESS WRITER

Burglars have broken into Democratic Party headquarters.

No, you're not having a flashback to 1972 and the infamous event that ultimately led to the greatest scandal in U.S. political history and the downfall of Richard Nixon's presidency.

Instead of Washington's Watergate complex, this burglary took place at the New Hampshire Democratic Party's headquarters over the weekend. Neither police nor party officials will comment on what was stolen and whether the break-in was politically motivated.

"Hello, I'm Calling With Information About Heath Shuler...."

According to metafilter (and Talking Points Memo, though I can't find the reference to NC-11), the NRCC is robocalling NC-11 households with a recording that begins with the title of this post. Then, when people hang up, they call the house back six or seven times. The idea? "I was going to go out and vote for that Shuler fella, but the bastard called eight times during dinner!" Does the Asheville Citizen-Times know about this? [They did.] Shouldn't they hear from you about it?
