DNC creates Protecting theVote.org and challenges stricter voter ID bills

A new website, ProtectingtheVote.org, makes the case that actual instances of voter fraud are rare, despite Republicans’ success in passing stricter laws to combat fraud in dozens of states. Democrats accuse the GOP of trying to stifle minority votes as a way to win elections.

Stories appearing in various media in NC already, possibly as result of the DNC's effort. This may be on the agenda at the Progressive Democrats of NC's Annual Meeting tomorrow in Orange County.

For information on the issue, contact Democracy NC in Durham, NC. While Some of us thought the NCGA leaders might try to bring their bill up again in the quickie session this week, nothing came of it this time.

NC Republican Party outsources its attacks on DNC to New Jersey

This lesson in hypocrisy brought to you by the letters “G-O-P”

This post originally appeared on AFLCIONC.org.

On November 29, the Republican-controlled General Assembly adopted an error-filled, non-binding resolution lambasting the DNC for not doing more to hire in-state, non-union companies to work the 2012 Convention in Charlotte. It falsely claims that the Democratic National Convention is actively trying not to hire North Carolina workers.

“This is such an unnecessary resolution,” objected Rep. Paul Luebke because, in fact, “the DNC has an agreement to hire local people as much as possible.” To say otherwise is “simply not true,” he added.

Charlotte-area Rep. Becky Carney blasted Speaker Thom Tillis for wasting time and taxpayer dollars for a special session on a resolution having “nothing to do with the critical issues in this state right now. We need to be up here talking about jobs for every North Carolinian that’s unemployed,” said Carney. “And what have we done here for three days? We have not talked about jobs.”

Unfortunately for North Carolina workers, state Republicans can’t be bothered to put their money where their mouth is. According to filings with the Federal Elections Commission, the NCGOP has outsourced its video production, logo design, and web services to a company in New Jersey. Specifically, the NCGOP has paid one Mr. Riccardo Diaz, the Director of Media Affairs for New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, $5,589.90 to produce web videos attacking the DNC and President Obama, to design the logo for its 2012 campaign, and to create the website for itself and for its own state convention!

How’s that for chutzpah?

Big news: DNC open to funding fight against anti-gay amendments

Democratic National Committee Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz, in an interview with The Washington Blade, has opened the door for the party - it holds its convention in Charlotte in 2012 - to assist North Carolina and Minnesota in their upcoming marriage amendment battles.

Wasserman Schultz, also U.S. House member representing a district in Florida, said state party groups are now focusing on defeating amendments banning same-sex marriage and the national Democratic Party would consider sending resources if asked to do so.

"I know that the party in each of those states will be combatting them," Wasserman Schultz said. "And if they ask for our assistance, like any other state party request, we'll certainly consider it."

NC unions welcome DNC to "Right to Work" state/city for convention

Sometimes I stumble over things which simply leave me aghast. Seems like there is some concern somewhere, but obviously not in NC, that there will be no discernible union workforce in Charlotte for the DNC Convention. Tim Kaine then goes on to make it all worse by trying to explain that the Democratic Party's "right to work" laws are just part of the "good ole Southern scenery".

Gwen Wilkins defeats Stella Adams for election as 1st Vice-Chair of NC Dems

Gwen Wilkins from Nash County and the Chair of the 1st Congresssional District (and a Native American) was elected 1st Vice Chair of the State Executive Committee in another election at the meeting where David Parker was elected Party Chairman.

Stella Adams, formerly of Durham, ran for re-election for 1st Vice-Chair, but dropped out of the race after losing in the early balloting, Adams then threw her support to Wilkins. June Mabry later also dropped out in the race for 1st Vice-Chair and conceded the race to Wilkins.

Melvin Williams was elected Secretary, and Tony McEwen was re-elected 3rd Vice-Chair.

NC Democrats elect David Parker Chairman to lead comeback in 2012

RALEIGH, N.C. —Democratic National Committee member David Parker of Statesville easily defeated current state Rep. Bill Faison of Orange County and former state party First-vice Chair Dannie Montgomery of Anson County on the first ballot. Parker will succeed outgoing Party Chairman David Young of Asheville.

As the Raleigh News and Observer reports, “ North Carolina Democrats Saturday chose a veteran activist, David Parker, to lead the party's comeback effort next year, that will include efforts to hold on to the governor's mansion and retake the legislature from the Republicans”.

The Democratic Party’s State Executive Committee (SEC) of over 600 members met to conduct a regular business meeting at the NC State University McKimmon Center.

Parker, 56, of Iredell County, took the gavel and leadership over the party immediately. He will serve a two-year term. He received 355 out of 632 total votes, party spokeswoman Kerra Bolton said.

Winning Election to the State Executive Committee of the NCDP

The State Executive Committee is the governing body of the North Carolina Democratic Party. The SEC:

  • Elects the NCDP chair.
  • Elects delegates to the DNC.
  • Votes upon changes to the NCDP platform.
  • Votes upon resolutions to inform (or censure) elected Democrats.
  • Approve the Bylaws/Constitutions of State Auxiliaries.
  • Receive and approve the NCDP budget each year.
  • Consider petitions for alternative methods of organizing precincts.

The SEC is composed of people like you. There are over 600 members of the SEC. Below is a short guide on how you can seek election to the SEC.

Broke Back Democrats

Well here we are again.  Faced with another tough decision: Do we Stand Up for Principles? Or Do We Lay Down, Bend Over, And Get These RepubliCON/Obama Tax Cuts Rammed Down Our Throats and be Told to Like & Love?  I think we ALL know what Will happen.  We As a Party are going to Cave!  We are going to concede defeat Fully!  We are going to Bend Over and Take It!  Our Will, Our Spirits, Our Backs have been Broken!

Isn't it ironic?  The RepubliCON/Tea Party said that their Goal was to "Break" President Obama but Obama has dragged the Rest of the Party Down with him!  They made it no secret what they planned to do.  They were Crystal Clear in the Strategy they were going to use.  Totally Opposition.  Total Obstruction But the True Irony is that the "One Thing" that the RepubliCONS & President Obama agree on could Very well be the thing that Ends up Breaking the Democratic Party and President Obama.

Meet me in ... Charlotte for 2012: The Democratic National Committee 2010 summer meeting in St. Louis

The Democratic National Committee held its 2010 summer meeting last week, Aug 19 and 20, in St. Louis. As one of your elected DNC members, it was a pleasure to get to represent the great state of North Carolina and to let other DNC members from across the country know how much we will enjoy hosting them for the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

Democratic National Committee Update, or" Snowmageddon Is Contagious"

Instead of driving to the Triangle for another gathering of North Carolina Democrats this morning, I'm here at home in Cumberland County, looking at the snow outside my window. Looks like winter weather has cancelled our main events today, so I thought I would take this opportunity to give BlueNC an update about last weekend's Winter Meeting of the Democratic National Committee, held in Washington, D.C.
