Is ElectriCities getting the Message? Posh Parties, More Debt, Improprieties
Submitted by electric on Sat, 02/28/2009 - 7:40pmhttp://www.rockymounttelegram.com/news/electricities-pulls-plug-on-posh-...
So they pulled the plug on the posh party. But you have to read the comments and the article. Staff thinks ratepayers do not pick up the tab for their city staff and officials registration. Board Members just now figured out paying for Golf may not be so smart. And the east finally realized they will be seen "in bad light" if they go off to party.

New allegations have surfaced that there has been lobbying deals between ElectriCities and Dominion as a result of personal loans between the lobbyists.
The Electricities lobbyist has a child who worked for two ElectriCities-paid lobbyists, a Governor campaign, and Speaker Morgan.
Lobbying improprieties have been alleged about Drew Saunders.

Can We Wait Until 2026?
Submitted by Cheryl Ellington on Sun, 02/15/2009 - 8:49pmAs I sit here putting together information for this piece, I am dressed in layers of clothing and blankets while my feet rest on a hot water bottle to insulate me from the chill in my 63 degree home. After moving to Wilson from Charlotte six years ago and reeling from the sticker shock of that first electric bill, I accepted that cold winters—indoors—were going to be a way of life if I wanted my electric bill to remain remotely close to where it was when I was a Duke Power customer. You cannot pay a reasonable rate in this town to stay reasonably warm. The opposite is true in the hot months—somehow we adjust to the balmy 79-80 degree thermostat setting. Thus began my intense curiosity and crusade to understand what went so terribly wrong to drive our electric rates into the stratosphere.

Your electric provider is raising rates and partying with the Governor-elect
Submitted by electric on Thu, 12/04/2008 - 11:36amYour electric bill to Progress Energy, Duke Energy, ElectriCities (the middle man collector for your city), Dominion and the Rural Cooperatives now goes for some fun at a party. The Daily Advance called ElectriCities beach bash “poopin the party” but I call this “lighting the party.”
No offense Governor-elect Perdue but I would expect this from McCrory but not you. I could have seen this deal unfolding with McCrory and Duke. Don’t let these people pay the way for your Inaugural Ball. It is wrong when rates are going up and people cannot afford proper heat and light. Especially ElectriCities – they should have been (from pure common sense) prevented from spending money on parties any more.
