The SC Republican Primary: Eyes Wide Shut
Submitted by Tom Sullivan on Sun, 01/22/2012 - 12:28pmPrimary voters just gave former Speaker Newt Gingrich the win in the Republican presidential primary in South Carolina, "America's most conservative state." Reddest of the red. Buckle of the Bible Belt. CNN welcomed viewers to the Charleston debate this week with “Welcome to the South,” a place “where values matter.”
More there than anywhere else? What values mattered most to South Carolinians who gave Gingrich his win?
Not trust. Why should they trust Newt Gingrich? His three wives can’t.

On Winning, Or, Democrats, Meet Joe Wood
Submitted by fake consultant on Sun, 02/11/2007 - 9:12amIn a recent conversation (“On Shrinking the Tent, Or, Why Third Parties Don’t Elect Presidents These Days”),I posited that the bloc of voters who have drifted away from being reliable supporters of the Democratic and Republican Parties to the middle (I call it the “gap”), are not fertile hunting grounds for a potential alternative party candidate.
History has shown us however, that these voters are often the crucial difference in election after election for established party candidates. To put it in stronger terms, no Democratic Presidential candidate has a chance in winning in 2008 without successfully piloting these waters.
If you are considering running as the Democratic candidate for President in 2008, I humbly offer you the following navigational chart.
I’ve never personally met Joe Wood, but it’s fairly easy to get to know some things about him.

Merry Charismas
Submitted by gregflynn on Fri, 12/01/2006 - 2:39pm
It's nice for people whose world is so well ordered that the significance of celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ can be reduced to compiling lists of stores that are are naughty and those that are nice. If you don't say Merry Christmas expect a lump of coal from Raleigh's Called2Action and, the American Family Association:
...it has now become politically incorrect for Jesus to be seen in public on His birthday.
Some Christians ask, "What's the big deal? Why make such a fuss?" We must all wake up to the fact that there are Americans today who, like King Herod, are troubled at even the mention of Jesus' name; and they are doing everything in their power to publicly eradicate His memory. If they can do that, they can have the Gospel condemned as so-called "hate speech".
This is a significant battle in a much larger war... let's all do our part by helping to Keep Christ in Christmas!
The 2006 Do's and Don'ts of Christmas:
We will be compiling a list of which stores do include Merry Christmas, and which stores don't.
