Each year the Wake County Young Democrats hold a major fundraiser, and one person is honored at a dinner and awarded that year's P. R. Latta Award. According to Zeke Creech who presided over the first award dinner in 2001, the award is intended to honor a Democrat for his/her lifetime of service to the Democratic Party and to their community.

As an observer of the political process, I do not have to remind you of the excitement generated within the Democratic Party in the past 12 months since the Wake County Young Democrats appealed to you for sponsorship of our annual P. R. Latta Award reception dinner.

Please join the Women's Caucus of the Young Democrats of North Carolina as we celebrate women in the judiciary. The event will begin with a happy (half) hour in celebration of the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor. The second part of the program will focus on female judicial candidates and judges in North Carolina telling their personal stories. NC Court of Appeals Candidate Leto Copeley will be headlining the event. NC Court of Appeals Judge Linda Stephens will be speaking, in addition to a number of other judges and candidates for various statewide and local offices.
