Move to the middle?
Submitted by James on Tue, 11/09/2010 - 8:32amGary Pearce wrote this last week at Talking About Politics.
Governor Perdue’s first statement got it right: We need to work together in a time of economic and fiscal crisis. But she’ll have conflicting advice. Move to the middle and work with the Republicans, some will say. No, confront them at every turn, others will counsel.
Move to the middle? The Governor would have to take a few giant steps to the left in order to get anywhere near middle. And the only people she confronts at every turn are progressive Democrats. Looks like North Carolina is screwed either way.

Show time
Submitted by James on Wed, 01/27/2010 - 9:59amOver at Talking About Politics, Gary Pearce says:
Once you get past the dishing about Sarah Palin, John Edwards, et al in the book Game Change, you learn a few things. Like about President Obama. That he’s like a basketball player who wants the ball when the game is on [the] line.
That pretty much sums of my thinking about the big speech tonight. It's been a hell of a year, with a few important accomplishments, and many missed opportunities. I hope Mr. Obama gets his game back on.

Submitted by James on Fri, 01/22/2010 - 10:04amBe sure to join us Monday evening at 6:30 pm on BlueNC Radio, with special guest Gary Pearce. We'll look at the campaigns of all three Democratic candidates for US Senate. Call-ins welcome, of course. I'll also ask Gary to comment on events in Massachusetts as well as this week's Supreme Court ruling. If you have specific questions and can't make the show, include them as comments on this thread and I'll do my best to squeeze them in. Another radio interview with Gary here.

The tax reform train
Submitted by James on Tue, 09/29/2009 - 3:55pmGary Pearce today suggests that Bev Perdue could make a name for herself by getting out in front on the tax reform agenda in North Carolina, and he may be right. Except for the fact that the train is already leaving the station, as you can see in the recent budget passed by the legislature (see page 238 - PDF).

Corruption in State Government
Submitted by Brunette on Thu, 12/20/2007 - 10:28amGary Pearce makes a strong point on the blog he hosts with Carter Wrenn (talkingaboutpolitics.com) about the problems with the State Highway Patrol when he cites the patronage system that, he says, has corrupted law enforcement practices. This is a problem Democrats as well as Republicans have to acknowledge.

Gary Pearce Doesn't Get It
Submitted by James on Fri, 12/07/2007 - 10:22amThe lifecycle of a political operative is an interesting phenomenon. It often starts with fresh-eyed idealism, before it evolves into focused pragmatism, followed by dark cynicism, then doddering senility. Gary Pearce, infamous Democratic pundit and consummate insider, appears to be hard into stage three. Either that or he's in Richard Moore's pocket.
