I've been in Iowa for a week, doing whatever it takes to win Iowa and the Democratic Nomination for Senator Joe Biden. As everybody here at BlueNC knows, I believe in Joe.

I'm beyond talking about Chuck Grassley and Tom Carper's Bankruptcy Bill, or the Clarence Thomas hearings that were cut short by Anita Hill's team. I'm beyond pedantic enucleations of back-door bureaucratic negotiations. I'm way beyond Hillary bashing. I'm not even asking for money. Instead, I'm going to tell you a story that in some ways goes back to a young college student in his small town's only diner, and in other ways goes back to a young man growing up in Delaware. Hopefully, you will indulge me as I go back in to my past, our past, and Joe Biden's past with some of my recollections and a few quotes that help tell the story. To those enamored with brevity, I apologize for the commodious topics covered in this diary. I think it's a rewarding read, but it's not for the faint of heart. Perhaps it will tell you more about a great Democratic Senator and a little about ourselves. And so it begins ...

President Bush has a spending problem.

While proposing another $196 billion for an unpopular war, Bush wants to strip $8.4 million from North Carolina classrooms.

Bush threatened to veto the Labor-HHS-Education bill that the Senate approved last week.

Bush and his Republican enablers Elizabeth Dole and Richard Burr favor a draconian budget that would cut education funding for North Carolina and 43 other states.

These misguided cuts could force local communities to find local tax dollars to meet those needs or shortchange their schools.

With next year’s elections, we will face either a return of an Era that lifts up all that is great and good about the land of the free and the home of the brave, and returns us to that shining City on a hill; … or we will witness more of the same from the last seven years.

Karl Rove, who masterminded President George W. Bush's two White House victories but was slammed by opponents as a divisive figure in U.S. politics, said on Monday he was resigning and heading home to Texas.
The political strategist, known as "The Architect" for guiding Bush from the Texas governorship to the presidency, but also known as "Bush's brain", which makes me think he must have left years ago, is the latest aide to quit as the clock ticks down on Bush's second term.
"This closes the chapter where George Bush and Karl Rove thought they were building a new Republican majority that would last a generation. That is clearly off the table," said Cal Jillson, a political analyst at Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

Say something specific to their office. Ask Tony Snow if he can answer questions now. Ask for Dick Cheney, and say you're supporting H.RES. 333. Say you don't support a pardon in addition to commuting the sentence. I'm almost willing to say that you should give the Leahy treatment, but since you're going to be talking to a staffer, I won't endorse that course of action.

WASHINGTON - President Bush urged Americans to use Memorial Day to rededicate themselves to fighting for freedom around the world and pray for the safety of U.S. troops serving overseas.

On Monday, Bush will mark his sixth Memorial Day as a wartime president with a visit to Arlington National Cemetery. He is to lay a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknowns to honor those who have died in past and current conflicts.
