GM "teabagging" e-mail

I'm a registered Independent since no party deserves my vote....they must earn it.

One (removed so as to not give him the attention) began sending his his helpful vitriol where everyone not thinking his "progressive" way is a moron, a Nazi (yes, I was called a Nazi and a Fox New operative although I don't watch Fox News) and a "teabagger". That something I heard about 2 weeks ago. Gene just cleared that up for me. I did a search for his name and it popped up here.

I asked two simple questions after informing him that the Communist party is alive, as he claimed it is no longer in existence.

1- Do you support or oppose a woman right to abortion?
2- Do you believe the 2nd Amendment affirms an individual the right to legally purchase and possess a gun for self-defense?

Here's the reply:

On Cutting Dealerships, Or, We Examine The Costs Of Selling Cars

So there’s a lot of conversation out there about car dealerships being told they won’t be selling cars for Chrysler and GM any more.

The idea, we are told, is to save the auto manufacturers money by reducing the number of dealerships with whom they do business.

I don’t really know that much about the car business; and I really didn’t understand where these cost savings would come from, but I was able to have a conversation with the one person I do know who actually could offer some useful insight.

Follow along, Gentle Reader, and you’ll get a bit of an education at a time when we all need to know a bit more about these companies we suddenly seem to own…and about the closure of thousands of local businesses that will make the news about our bad job market worse.

With the economic troubles facing almost every sector of our economy, our government has had to prop up the banking industry and most recently, the Automotive industry.
I was originally all in favor of supporting GM's Volt project as a way to 'Buy American' and still am to some point.
In the back of my mind I kept thinking about 'who killed the electric car' and why that technology, which GM had created a decade ago, is not part of their solution now.
Ok, so I am no engineer, maybe there were lots of flaws with that car.
But when I see that John Wayland can build a record breaking electric muscle car in his own garage, then I get upset that we can't invest in that technology...

the rest tomorrow)

For those of you not paying attention, the days of the American automotive industry driving the US economy seem to be visible only in the rear view mirror.

The fortunes projected for the industry for 2007 are an improvement over the previous year, but only because 2006 (and 2005, for that matter) were, to put it bluntly, brutal beyond belief.

How brutal?

GM lost at least $16 billion during those two years, and soon expects to lose at least $6 billion more to close out the relationship with its former Delphi division.
