Greensboro County Commissioner Alston gets blamed for doing his job.
Submitted by stormbear on Fri, 01/21/2011 - 4:32pmThere is a little nugget of a story that has been haunting the front page of the Greensboro News and Record for the past week that has been bugging me.
With the revelations of American Express this past week, announcing the loss of yet more jobs from the state, you would think NC local governments would be more ambitious in their efforts to keep jobs in NC.

Lock and load
Submitted by James on Tue, 07/27/2010 - 7:10amIt should be wild time in Greensboro on August 14, when teh crazies will gather in an armed demonstration to "restore the constitution" ... whatever that means. If I get back from a business trip in time, I'll be there, armed and dangerous as usual.

Big Oil Lobbyists Stage Astroturf Rally in Greensboro Today; Real Grassroots Activists to Hold Counter Rally
Submitted by alina_CCNC on Thu, 08/20/2009 - 7:50amThis evening, a fake grassroots rally is being orchestrated at the Greensboro Coliseum to trick Senator Kay Hagan into believing there is a groundswell of popular opposition to reforms that will create clean energy jobs and lessen our dependence on foreign oil.
These events are organized and paid for by the American Petroleum Institute (API), an umbrella group that lobbies for Big Oil and businesses that want to block investment in new, cleaner forms of energy. Petroleum Institute members include ExxonMobile, Halliburton and GE, to name a few.
The “citizens” with the urge to rise-up on this issue just so happen to live in states with U.S. Senators whose vote is being sought by Big Oil.

My racist haircut - why tomorrow is not so far from 1960
Submitted by DrFrankLives on Tue, 01/20/2009 - 12:28amI am not equal to the task of addressing what tomorrow means to a Southern white man. I grew up in the South. I grew up in Guilford County, North Carolina. So did my mother. Mom grew up a few miles from the Woolworth where, in 1960, when my mom was 11, four young men from North Carolina A&T State University sat down and asked only to be allowed to eat their food.
1960.
Think about that. 1960. Ten years before I was born. Two years before the birth of the black man who will, tomorrow, take the office of President of the United States.
How long? Not long.
