Right to Know
Submitted by Tommy on Sat, 05/03/2008 - 9:27pm.Shouldn't $1.6 million dollars of your hard earned North Carolina tax money give you the right to know and refuse exposure to hazardous pesticides, herbicides, and chemicals? If Governor Easley can spend $1.6 million tax payer dollars on a pesticide plan to protect farmworkers shouldn't the plan also include protecting the citizens of North Carolina as well. The plan should be comprehensive and not discriminate between industries, companies, workers, and citizens. Tell the Director of the State Office of Rural Health and Community Care, Mr. John Price to implement a plan that protects everyone's right to know when being exposed to hazardous pesticides, herbicides, and chemicals.
Premiering UNCOUNTED: The New Math of American Elections - Greensboro Apr 17 - Burlington Apr 18
Submitted by NCVoter on Fri, 04/04/2008 - 2:47pm."UNCOUNTED: The New Math of American Elections" will be showing in Greensboro and Burlington NC on April 17, and 18th respectively. This movie was produced by David Earnhardt, a Greensboro NC native. David will be present after both showings to answer questions.
I have seen "UNCOUNTED" twice now, and for once in my 4 years of e-voting activism, can recommend a movie. This isn't just about voting machines, its about voter suppression and caging. This movie is about REAL people and REAL events, and will wake up even the most complacent voters. Don't miss this great opportunity to see the movie and meet the producer!

Submitted by Jerimee on Mon, 03/24/2008 - 12:00pm.Barack Obama will return to North Carolina on Wednesday to host a town hall meeting in Greensboro.
Mayor Yvonne Johnson of Greensboro made the announcement at the Guilford County Democrats this morning, after declaring her endorsement of Senator Obama's campaign.
"Senator Obama has outlined a broad agenda for change and shown his unique ability to bring people of all backgrounds, beliefs and party affiliations together to make change happen," Mayor Johnson said. "I'm proud to endorse his candidacy and pleased that Barack Obama is bringing his campaign for change right here to Greensboro. This will be an historic opportunity for North Carolinians and citizens of Greensboro to hear Senator Obama's message, and to play a decisive role in choosing our party's nominee."
Obama will meet with North Carolina voters and share his plans to jumpstart the economy, improve our education system, end the War in Iraq, and make quality health care affordable and accessible to all Americans.

Please be in contact if you would like begin calling on folks in your own towns and neighborhoods. We also began an email list through which we will keep in touch, please notify me if you would like to be added. Please check back here often for updates!

Greensboro City Clerk Attempts to Thwart Minimum Wage Effort
Submitted by gboroyoungdem on Mon, 12/10/2007 - 4:49pm.On Monday, December 3, the Greensboro Minimum Wage Committee (of which I am a member) presented a petition to the Greensboro city clerk asking that, in accordance with the City Charter, the City Council adopt an ordinance raising the minimum wage for all employees in the city to $9.36 per hour or submit it to the voters in the next citywide election. $9.36 is the equivalent, in today's dollars, of the purchasing power of the federal minimum wage in 1968, which is the highest purchasing power the minimum wage has had in US history.
