The White House’s and Congress’ continued inaction on responsible immigration reform has led to disaster and crisis, for state governments, local officials, and families alike. But the most serious side effect of this egregious abdication of responsibility is the “open season” many politicians seem to have declared against hard-working immigrant families. In North Carolina, for example, a sheriff’s racist remarks in 2008, used to describe the Latino community during a news interview, resulted not in condemnation but instead praise and adoration. The elected official’s popularity spiked and a Facebook group seeking his re-election was created. Is this really the America we thought we knew?

When times are tough, focusing on illegal immigrants helps distract the people's attention from the real threats to our economy, a Libertarian Party spokesman said Monday.

Pinko commie bureaucrats in the UNC Community College System called yesterday for the year-old ban on illegal immigrant students to be lifted. Why hasn't NCGOP Tom (Not Gay) Fetzer jumped on this opportunity to profess his patriotic bigotry?

Here's your answer: Adopt "Republican logic" and deny bail to people based on ugly prejudices and the illusion of thinking.

The No Bail for Certain Illegal Aliens bill, proposed Monday by N.C. Reps. Justin Burr (R-Stanly) and Pearl Burris-Floyd (R-Gaston), would deny bail for illegal immigrants who are charged with sex offenses, drug trafficking, gang related offenses, violent felony charges, or driving offenses.

Aside from the fact that it's almost certainly unconstitutional, it's also stupid. Just what we need in the middle of a budget crisis ... ignorant legislators proposing misguided legislation that costs a fortune and accomplishes nothing. Driving offenses? Now there's a cause for "no bail" if ever there was one.

Sheeesh.

Common sense and the rule of law makes an uncommon visit to North Carolina's state government. Governor Easley must be sorely disappointed.

WHY IS NORTH CAROLINA GIVING THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES A FREE "PASS" ON ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION?

Have we given up because everyone in North Carolina perceives their policies to be so similar? Or do we believe the candidates for state government's claims that they can fix the problem?

"It's not surprising then they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them or ANTI-IMMIGRANT SENTIMENT or anti-trade sentiment AS A WAY TO EXPLAIN THEIR FRUSTRATIONS."

A bill filed in the State House threatens to criminalize the normal and legal activities of hundreds of small business owners. House Bill 308 “State Contracts/ Illegal Immigrants” filed by Rep. George Cleveland would mandate participation in a voluntary federal program by everyone who enters into a contract with the State of North Carolina for “construction or repair work or for the purchase of apparatus, supplies, materials, or equipment”.

The Bill would increase the cost of running State Government by burdening businesses entering into State contracts with more red tape and legal liability. It would lead to employment discrimination against legal aliens and promote outsourcing to foreign companies not subject to United States immigration laws. Many small businesses will either shun State Contracts or increase bids to cover costs.

ALIPAC claims to be a group of moderates, opposed only to illegal immigration, that does not allow discussion of violence or racism on its board. However, the truth is they are very xenophobic, and some are racists as well.

Here's a classic post. Scary stuff! A member of ALIPAC posted the idea to turn "redn**ks with shotguns" loose for a $5,000 bounty to shoot illegal immigrant Mexicans and solve the problem. Other ALIPACers had similar thoughts. The President of ALIPAC, William Gheen ("W") thought the whole idea was "humorous"!
