College Republicans' misleading tv ad

It doesn't help when reporters legitimize deceptive astro-turfers:

Sluggish economic recovery has taken a toll on many Americans, but who knows that better than college graduates stuck moving home while they look for work?

Note to the N&O: Being creative is fine, but when you preface a story about a political ad by softening the audience, you're actually adding to the deception. What you should be asking is: If this (alleged) college kid is so poor he has to move home, how in the &*@# could he afford to run a tv ad? I'll answer that for you:

Bush's Brain coming to UNC

Karl Rove will speak at UNC on September 20th:

Karl Rove, the chief political advisor to Republican President George W. Bush, will speak at UNC-Chapel Hill on September 20th.

Rove, now a political analyst for Fox News, will give a talk at 5 p.m. at Memorial Hall, Rob Christensen reports. The speech is being sponsored by the UNC College Republicans as well as other conservative groups.

Note to the N&O: at least some of your readers might be interested in finding out who those "other conservative groups" are. You owe me 2 1/2 hours of my life back.

Republicans ride avalanche of money into November

And you'll never guess who's behind the money pile-up:

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the biggest collection point for corporate contributions, has increased its spending for the congressional election in November from $35 million in 2008 to a projected $75 million this year. Officials say it may go even higher.

The chamber has been joined by new conservative fundraising organizations — such as American Crossroads, affiliated with Republican strategist Karl Rove — that have committed to raising tens of millions of dollars.

Here's a little missive from American Crossroads about its mission:

The Week in Quotes 7/6

We decided on high card. There was no disagreement between us. We shook hands before and after.
Andrew Borasky, who won a Republican county commission primary by card draw last week. State law mandates that primary ties be broken by a lot draw.

He was kind of uncomfortably dancing.
Matthew Jentgen, who watched John Edwards dance to "Rump Shaker" at the West End Wine bar in Durham in April.

We're struggling here.
Rod Blagojevich, from an FBI wiretap. It was disclosed this week that him and his wife spent over $400k on clothing in 6 years. Blogojevich spent $1300 on ties in just one day.

I know it's really gonna upset a lot of gay men—I'm sure hundreds of 'em are gonna be jumping off the Golden Gate Bridge—but I ain't available. I ain't gay. Sorry.

He's Baa-aack!

In case you missed it... although I beg to differ with the "half" part of Rove's description:

Karl Rove and other top Republican operatives have created a new network of political organizations in order to mimic pro-Democratic groups and move from what Rove calls “a half-assed rightwing conspiracy” to a unified force capable of regaining Republican control of Congress and the White House – with big money the glue holding it all together.

(from Democracy NC's Link of the Day)

Did they lie about everything?

Enough!

Uh Oh! I'm going to have to deal harshly with the King of Mud Sling, Karl Rove himself.

You see, these simple little discussions that Rove and Cheney and Bush and (enter your favorite Neo-Con here) are holding, while on their "Bush Legacy Tour: He Was Really Good At Keeping America Safe" really need to be refuted. Immediately. Harshly.

So, BushCo kept the USA safe? Well, except for that 9/11 thingy. Oh and that anthrax thingy. Oh, the disruption of cash flow into the average American citizens bank account. Um, there was also that spying on Americans thing. With a topping of torturing people.

I could go on, but you get the picture, right? RIGHT?

Right!

Mark Cuban's insider trading charge-more Rovian payback?

Today the SEC filed insider trading charges against Dallas Mavericks owner, Mark Cuban.
No big deal? Think again. Here is the background on why this is happening. Cuban made his money as the founder of HDTV and the HD cable network. In 2003, Bethany MacLean and Peter Elkind of Fortune Magazine had penned a best selling book, Enron: the Smartest Guys in the room, the rise and fall of Enron, and were trying to get the story made into a movie.
Not so surprisingly, there were no studios willing to take a chance on a story that attacks Bush buddies at Enron at the time when Bush was riding a wave of popularity after 9/11,the Iraq War, and the Global War on Terror.
That is when Mark Cuban stepped in and decided to become the executive producer of the project and make the movie in his own HD movie studio.
My guess is that merited this retaliation.

Rove: "Let me give you some advice, don't follow my advice."

It has been speculated that Rove is actually an undercover leftwing operative, deviously destroying the GOP by urging them to go farther and farther to the brink of fundamentalist absurdity.

Newsweek has it that Rove is advising candidates to stay away from Bush, due to Bush's unpopularity caused in large part by following Rove's advice. Everything right is wrong again . . .

What's a GOP politician to do?

Blockquote on the flip.
