Mayor

Detective Gary McFadden ... He has my Vote!!

Detective Gary McFadden is a living legend .

There are not many men like him. McFadden spent two decades as a homicide investigator with the Charlotte, North Carolina Police Department. His job was never 9 to 5 with assigned breaks. He witnessed the end results of some of the most brutal killings in the metro area. More importantly, he witnessed the hurt it brought to family members and friends. He spent his time off either bonding with his wife and children, tending to his two favorite hobbies - grilling out or fly fishing, or speaking out against crime. Detective McFadden continues to speak at local churches, schools, street corners, community gatherings, homeless shelters, prisons, and on the streets of low income housing. He makes a difference in lives of the people he meets and talks with.

Poll Tending on Election Day - For a Democratic Mayor of Chapel Hill

UPDATE 2011: Someone came across this old post and found an old campaign website and asked me to update the website for this time around for 2011. It is: mayormark.org
----
I'll refrain from going into much background since I have already done so in other blog postings. Here is where you can find background info on the campaign:
http://bluenc.com/mark-kleinschmidt-mayor-campaign-endgame

What I'm asking for now is for volunteers to help by passing out campaign literature at busy polling sites at busy times of day in Chapel Hill so that we can elect the only democrat/only progressive in this close race to Mayor of Chapel Hill. Here is where we stand now. I need your help if I'm going to fill up the 9 remaining high turnout locations. Please post on the facebook event wall if you can volunteer at any of these locations/times (if you don't have a facebook account you can also e-mail me at ******** to sign up)

Shifts are approximately:
OPENING SHIFT- 6:30am to 9am, LUNCH SHIFT - Noon to 2:30pm, AFTER WORK SHIFT - 5pm to 7:30pm

If you are in favor of electing progressive democrats to office in North Carolina, then please take the time to back those thoughts with action. Shift details can be found inside.

Charlotte mayoral race: More Lassiter debate silliness, etc.

Hello! I'm the Anthony Foxx for Mayor blogger, and I wanted to share some of what's been going on in the race. Including: More debate shenanigans from Republican candidate John Lassiter, and the HUGE difference between the candidates' views on Charlotte's relationship to the rest of the state (hint: Democrat Anthony Foxx accepts that Charlotte is, in fact, part of North Carolina). Read all about it at www.anthonyfoxxformayor.blogspot.com! Thanks, and spread the word -- Anthony Foxx for Charlotte mayor on Nov. 3!

Mark Kleinschmidt for Mayor Campaign - Endgame

With Early Voting starting at the Planetarium in Chapel Hill tomorrow (Oct 19th - along with our on campus rally at noon at Polk Place) and the election only about 2 weeks out (Nov 3rd), I wanted to take this opportunity to share a little information about the campaign and most importantly let you know how you can help by volunteering during the next couple of weeks.

In case you aren't familiar with him or the campaign, here is a brief intro:

Follow me below the fold for more information about Mark & what he stands for, to learn why he's earned the endorsements & support of the Sierra Club, the Indy Weekly, the UNC Young Dems, & a former Chapel Hill Mayor Ken Broun, and learn how you can help with the campaign during the final weeks!

Foxx campaign in Charlotte: We need your help

Hi, I'm a volunteer for the Anthony Foxx for Mayor campaign in Charlotte, and I wanted to give everybody some information about our campaign sites, how to contribute and what's been going on since the GOP primary last week.

For those of you in the Charlotte area, you probably already know most or all of this; I pre-emptively apologize. For those who don't: Charlotte, the Carolinas' biggest city and the nation's 19th-biggest, is about to elect its first new mayor since 1995. Following his unsuccessful bid for governor last year, Republican seven-term Mayor Pat McCrory has decided not to run again, and two candidates have emerged from the City Council -- Democrat Anthony Foxx and Republican John Lassiter. Charlotte -- an up-and-coming, increasingly progressive city in a state just went blue last year, a city with a 7-4 Democratic majority on its council -- hasn't had a Democratic mayor since Harvey Gantt from 1983-87.

Spruce Pine Mayor Advocates Unconstitutional Ballot Access Restrictions

Many have excitedly embraced the chance to extend to Bryan Greene his constitutional freedom to run for public office and to have his name printed on the ballot, although the state has wrongfully restricted him. Yet, unlike most individuals, such as the Spruce Pine candidate for Town Council who signed Mr. Greene’s petition, who support the right to the ballot as a basic freedom, there are those who refuse to support Bryan’s right to be on the ballot. The most notable of these very few individuals, is the mayor of Spruce Pine, Mr. Wes Foy, who refused to sign Mr. Greene’s petition
