Find something wrong with this incentive package
Submitted by Betsy Muse on Wed, 07/09/2008 - 10:57am.The typical BlueNC post on corporate incentives is a rant against the practice of offering massive incentive packages to companies to stay in or locate in North Carolina - deals that ultimately won't impact employment figures or bring in tax revenues at a rate that makes sense. I think I've found an incentive package that makes sense and I've been working hard to find something wrong with it.

Did Nick Mackey Cheat to become Mecklenburg Co. Sheriff?
Submitted by Betsy Muse on Wed, 01/16/2008 - 12:28pm.Did Nick Mackey cheat to become Mecklenburg Co. Sheriff? I don't know. I'm not sure I'd want to be one of the people charged with making that determination. From information released by the state party to The Charlotte Observer, this looks like it's going to be very sticky business.
Three Charlotte residents have written the state Democratic Party saying Nick Mackey organized their precinct during his race for Mecklenburg sheriff and named them officers without their knowledge or permission.
That's not good. That's not good at all.
Mecklenburg County Sheriff Selection Process an Embarrassment
Submitted by Betsy Muse on Thu, 12/06/2007 - 5:02pm.Most of you probably haven't been paying attention to what is going on in Mecklenburg County with the selection of the next sheriff. The very popular Sheriff Pendergraph has moved to Washington to take a job with the Department of Homeland Security. Members of the Democratic Executive Committee gather tonight to choose his successor. Holy mother of pearl, what a nightmare! You will find background here.
Larry Kissell needs 330. We need 443.
Submitted by Oliver Queen on Sun, 04/22/2007 - 12:29am.
A week ago, I became the acting president of the Mecklenburg County Young Democrats, and I'm running to keep my post when we have our elections meeting on May 6 (3:30-5:30 at the Independence Library Branch). And all of that seemed well and good until our new party chair, David Erdman, told me that when he was the president of the MCYD (back in 1980), he had 442 dues paying members (including a certain Arkansas Governor). I was blown away, since all of the MCYD incarnations I've known were much smaller. Still, I want to beat that number, even though our official membership rolls currently show 3 dues-paying members.
