Obama increases taxes on working poor while cutting taxes for the rich?
Submitted by usernamehere on Sun, 12/12/2010 - 12:58pmDid you know that Obama's deal with Republicans not only cuts taxes for the rich, but INCREASES taxes on the working poor?
More importantly, does your Congressman know? Will Brad Miller, G.K. Butterfield, or Mel Watt vote for this disgusting deal? David Price signed a letter opposing it, but what will he do when the vote actually comes?
Phone numbers for these Democrats are at the bottom of their web pages.
Contact Brad Miller here.
Contact G.K. Butterfield here.
Contact Mel Watt here.
The fix is already in for the US Senate to approve this travesty. Tell your Congressman that this deal should not be brought up for a vote. Just do nothing and the working poor will be better off than under this Obama-McConnell plan.

Spy vs. spy
Submitted by James on Tue, 07/20/2010 - 7:55amDear members of Congress from North Carolina,
Is this what you all have in mind when you talk about accountability in government? It looks like business as usual for Republicans, but then again, Republicans aren't supposed to be in charge.
Pretty disgusting if you ask me.
What started as a temporary fix in response to the terrorist attacks has turned into a dependency that calls into question whether the federal workforce includes too many people obligated to shareholders rather than the public interest -- and whether the government is still in control of its most sensitive activities. In interviews last week, both Defense Secretary Robert M. Gates and CIA Director Leon Panetta said they agreed with such concerns.

It's time for a war tax
Submitted by James on Mon, 11/23/2009 - 11:29amWith so many Republican chickenhawks wanting to pour more money into the black hole of Afghanistan, Congressman David Obey of Wisconsin has taken a powerful and smart position on the matter:
[He] made it clear that he is absolutely opposed to sending any more U.S. troops to Afghanistan and says if Obama decides to do that, he'll demand a new tax -- what he calls a "war surtax" -- to pay for it.

What's up with Watt?
Submitted by James on Fri, 11/20/2009 - 9:40amDoes anybody have any insight into this? Sounds like Mel Watt got leaned on by Obama's boys to go along with the Big Money Protection Racket.
In an unprecedented defeat for the Federal Reserve, an amendment to audit the multi-trillion dollar institution was approved by the House Finance Committee with an overwhelming and bipartisan 43-26 vote on Thursday afternoon despite harried last-minute lobbying from top Fed officials and the surprise opposition of Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.), who had previously been a supporter.
A desperate, last-minute attempt to thwart the move came in the form of an amendment championed by Rep. Mel Watt (D-N.C.) and described by its supporters as more reasonable. On Tuesday, however, the Huffington Post reported that, on a close reading, his amendment would in fact decrease transparency at the Fed by adding additional restrictions.

2nd Annual Gantt Watt Reception and what it meant to me.
Submitted by HallStyle on Sun, 09/20/2009 - 10:49pm
Yesterday was a great day for the North Carolina Democratic Party. The 2nd Annual Gantt Watt Reception was as we young folk tend to say "Off The Hook". I had the privilege of being around a lot of strong passionate Young Democrats and some not so young democrats. All gathered to honor Harvey Gantt and Mel Watt. Two Titans of North Carolina politics. Being at the reception I felt like in away that Generation is passing the torch to the next Generation of political leaders.

Submitted by Betsy Muse on Mon, 02/16/2009 - 11:54amU.S. House
Our members of congress were busy with a rush of committee meetings and the push to begin repairing the damage to our economy wrought by the years of Republican mismanagement. They are working in-district this week, so there will not be a roundup this weekend.

NC Congressional Delegation Activity 1/26 - 1/30/09
Submitted by Betsy Muse on Thu, 02/05/2009 - 9:30amThis was a very busy week in Washington. Larry Kissell introduced his first amendment on the House floor and had it included with the House stimulus bill that went to the Senate. Kay Hagan spoke against the funding for SCHIP, but voted to provide health insurance for millions of low income children.
Committee and subcommittee meetings are picking up and it looks like the NRCC and the DCCC have already started the 2010 campaigns.
Here's our summary:
