Things all Wake Dems ought to consider when electing a new County Party Chair!

Dear Wake Dems:

I hope by now you know that big changes are taking place in the Wake County Democratic Party. Both Chairman Mack Paul and ED Tammy Brunner have resigned effective 12/31. This coming right after the 2011 elections puts us at a disadvantage in trying to build our party before the 2012 election season when we will be not so gently urged to drop everything and work for OFA.

Admiral Rickover's Basic Principals for Doing Your Job!

When I was younger, I always admired people who got the job done the first time, and didn't make excuses. Didn't pass the buck - the buck stops here!

I first learned about Admiral Hyman Rickover when reading a book about the voyage of the USS Nautilus, the first nuclear submarine. Rickover had a reputation as a perfectionist and a hard task-master. But he needed to be - nuclear energy did not not (at that time) allow for mistakes or short-cuts. That's why USN nuclear reactor techs were in high-demand in the civilian nuclear energy area. But when businesses decided to cut corners to save money, not even the best trained people could stop the short-cuts from creating havoc and destruction.

The new Obama-centric DNC logo bothers me

Is anyone else besides me bothered by all the Obama-centric stuff coming from the DNC?

The new logo is a big and dark blue "O" with a small pale "D" in the middle, and "Change that matters" right alongside it.

"Vote 2010" has the Obama For America logo in place of the "O" in Vote. There is a "Vote 2010" sticker in the shape of a big "O" with Obama looking like the "man in the moon"!

Obama's not even on the ballot in 2010. Many other Democrats are on the ballot, so why does this GOTV effort have to be so Obama-centric? Polls are showing that Democratic candidates are trying to distance themselves from Obama. So is this really the best time to roll out a new logo that makes it look like the Democratic Party is only a small part of Barack Obama?

Or is this just the DNC wanting to give work to the guy who invented the "O" logo?

Axelrod: No Public Option?

I don't want mandated universal coverage with no public option to drive down prices, and no medicare price negotiations or competition from Canada and Europe for Big Phara.

I suppose that plan is great for getting the campaign coffers full. But it doesn't serve the needs of people.

According to the Daily Kos:

"As to the fate of a government option plan to compete with private insurance, Axelrod suggested the controversial concept is gone but not forgotten: 'The spirit that led him to support a public option is still very much at play here and so you know he wants competition. He wants choice.'"

Without a public option, I will have to support the OFA in 'spirit' only.

FINAL STOP RALEIGH!!!

OFA: Organizing for the Agenda

If you're like me, you're wondering what we can do to support the President we elected. And it feels very strange to think that advocacy and activism might result in real change rather than just preventing bad things from happening. I’ve been watching the developing relationship between the White House, the DNC, Organizing for America, and local organizing activities. All of that inspired me to think about what role BlueNC should play during an Obama presidency.
