Paul Ryan

Give Virginia Foxx a piece of your mind on the budget

Virginia Foxx got an op-ed published in several newspapers in her district a few days ago, hammering Obama and the Democrats on the budget and repeating many of the same talking points that Paul Ryan and Company have been hammering in conservative media the past few days.

If you have some time, call in to the Town Hall on April 15th and give Foxx and her henhouse some grief.

I've also been Googling around a little bit - I have a funny feeling that Foxx or her staff didn't write this op-ed and versions of it are floating around under the bylines of different legislators. If you find proof of this, post something in the comments.

Friends of McCrory

If a person can be judged by the company he keeps, Pat McCrory must be judged a snake oil salesman of the highest order. Not just because of his gushing over the clueless Mitt Romney, but also because of his adoration for Garden State Governor Chris Christie. Christie recently came to town to argue that Pat McCrory will do for North Carolina what he himself has done with the so-called New Jersey Comeback.

On Tuesday, (Christie's) frequent assertions ... came under fresh scrutiny, this time from Standard & Poor’s, which downgraded New Jersey's financial outlook to negative from stable. The ratings agency said it lowered its outlook because it believed the governor’s revenue projections for the current fiscal year were overly optimistic, warning that the budget was structurally unsound.

Fact-checking the fact-checkers

When "I'll just take your word for it" seems to suffice:

The keynote speaker and others claimed the Republican presidential nominee, Mitt Romney, would raise taxes on the “middle class.” He has promised he won’t. Democrats base their claim on a study that doesn’t necessarily lead to that conclusion.

Bolding mine. Do I have to bring up Bush the Elder's "Read My Lips" claim? Really? And by the way, the study most definitely leads to that conclusion:

Ryan, McCrory and the culture of lies

I was the captain of my track team in high school and also ran at the college level at Annapolis. I ran the quarter and the mile relay. My best time for the quarter was 48.8 at the Penn Relays in 1971. I came in a distant fourth.

The G.O.P.’s Coalition of the Lying

The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars,
But in ourselves."

-- Julius Caesar Act 1, Scene 2

The Village press and the liberal blogosphere have had a field day with Republican convention speeches this week by Congressman Paul Ryan and Governor Mitt Romney. But what critics are missing about “post-truth politics” is that the fault lies not just with mendacious politicians, but with an American electorate that tolerates and enables them.

After this week’s Republican national convention, Fox News contributor Sally Kohn called Paul Ryan’s speech, “an apparent attempt to set the world record for the greatest number of blatant lies and misrepresentations slipped into a single political speech.”

Biggest brown noser panders in Raleigh

Paul Ryan visits Raleigh to pat Democrats on the back:

A state that's known for its research. A state that's known for it's dynamic economy.

How the heck does the biggest brown-noser think our state has gotten to be known for research and for a dynamic economy? It sure as hell wasn't under the so-called leadership of Republicans like McCrory and Tillis. In the two years since the GOP has had control of the General Assembly, the North Carolina economy has been swirling down the toilet, along with our environment and our personal freedoms. That's the same thing that happened with Bush and Bush-lite.

Ryan-Romney's Killer Budget

Let's be blunt. Access to health care saves lives. Loss of health care costs lives. The Ryan-Romney budget would cut as many as 30 million Americans off Medicaid--which, by definition, is the health care program available to people who can't afford any other coverage. Analysis of Medicaid coverage's effectiveness in saving lives shows that this would cost about 170,000 lives a year. Put it this way: The Ryan-Romney health care cuts could result in more additional American deaths every year than we've lost in every war since WWII combined.

Shocking? Yes, but you don't have to take my word for it. Here are my sources. Crunch the numbers yourself.

Monstrously immoral? That's my opinion.

Killing Medicare is just an appetizer

Pat McCrory and Mitt Romney also want to make birth control illegal. Hard to believe, but true. Pat McCrory backs Mitt Romney's plan. (This segment from Rachel Maddow opens with one of Romney's campaign commercials lies, but it's worth wading through the bullshit to see just how radical these clowns are.)
