Creeping fascism

This is a heads-up reminder that NDAA 2012, SOPA, PIPA, EEA and the accelerated approval of the Keystone XL Pipeline were all thrown at us AFTER 17 September 2011, i.e. "Day One" of Occupy Wall Street and the global Occupy movement. We must reject or reverse all of these or we lose. But even if we undo NDAA, stop SOPA, prevent PIPA, eliminate EEA and outlaw the Keystone XL Pipeline, that doesn't mean we win. It simply means we'd be right back where we started on 9/17, facing all the same injustices that inspired us to rise up against the corporate fascist elite kleptocracy that has taken over the United States government and through it much of the rest of the world. In other words...

The Enemy Expatriation Act is yet another treasonous bill similar to the National Defense Authorization Act that was signed into law by President Obama on New Years' Eve. The NDAA, which authorizes the indefinite detention of American citizens on U.S. soil, was met with outrage from the American public. The media largely refused to cover the NDAA until it was too late, and the bill had been signed into law. We are now faced with a similar situation. The Enemy Expatriation Act has been introduced in the House, and again, the media refuses to cover it. The American public have the right to know about a bill that could revoke their United States citizenship, and the continuing media blackout poses a serious threat to the freedoms this country pledges to provide its citizens.

Elliott Abrams is currently a senior fellow in the Council on Foreign Relations. In 2002, he was the senior director on the National Security Council for the Near East and North African Affairs during Bush's first term. At the start of Bush’s second term, he was promoted to Deputy National Security Advisor for Global Democracy Strategy, helping advance democracy abroad and U.S. policy in the Middle East.
