More job cuts at the N&O

At least parking won't be a problem:

The News & Observer will eliminate 20 positions across its operations as the slowly recovering economy continues to hurt ad sales. Affected employees were told Tuesday; some will have the opportunity to accept a voluntary severance package. The cuts will include five or six positions in the newsroom.

Addendum to story: Due to ongoing staff reductions, we will no longer be able to write stories about ongoing staff reductions.

More bad reporting, N&O style

Rob Christensen knows better than this:

Another conservative advocacy group is setting up shop in North Carolina. Heritage Action for America, a Washington-based 501(c)(4) organization has opened its first state operations in the country in North Carolina and Pennsylvania to engage in grassroots lobbying.

Rob, there's no way in hell you could have typed that last part with a straight face. Heritage has been exposed, widely and deeply, as the den mother of astroturf organizations in this country. You ignore that fact, just like you ignore this connection:

What happens if there's a scandal and the N&O doesn't report it?

Quick: What causes a politician's popularity to tank? A controversial vote, weak performance, general voter unrest ... all can cause poll numbers to drift downward. But for your approval ratings to really bottom out, it takes a scandal.
