Robin Hayes playing Primary politics

Trying to edge Vernon Robinson out of the picture:

"I was unaware that this was a multi-candidate primary and I have made it a practice not to endorse in those situations," Michael Reagan wrote in a Dec. 28 email to N.C. Republican Party Chairman Robin Hayes.

Translated: "I was unaware Robin Hayes was grooming a white, DC-savvy, predictable, prone-to-manipulation, business-as-usual candidate for this race, so my choice of the crazy black guy was a little premature."

NC GOP gets it wrong on Voter ID

As usual, Robin Hayes twists the truth to fit his anti-everything agenda:

“The reason why Republicans have fought to promote proper voter-identification laws is to prevent fraud like this from happening.”

Except, of course, that H351 wouldn’t have prevented "fraud like this" at all.

Apparently Laura's message isn't penetrating the depths of the Conservative communication network. This story hit the Tweetwaves last night, but stuff like this is still showing up:

Flipper Hayes: Still a loser

Good coverage in the N&O today, where the budget debate has evolved into a slugfest between Bev Perdue and Robin "Flipper" Hayes. To put it simply, she's kicking his ass.

This is Perdue's fifth veto this year and third in less than a week. On Wednesday, she vetoed proposed changes to the state employee health plan and another bill that would have allowed community colleges to opt out of a federal scholarship program.

The Republican-controlled legislature and Perdue could be headed for contentious budget negotiations. Republicans are writing an austere budget that allows a temporary sales tax to expire, while Perdue's proposal would keep a part of that tax, which would raise $827 million in the year beginning July 1. Republicans last week said they worried Perdue could force them to a standstill during budget negotiations, and needed to set an automatic budget cut triggered by a June30 deadline.

Keep those vetoes coming Governor Perdue. The more the better.

The arrogance of Robin Hayes

Giving instructions to Democratic Legislators:

Hayes sent out news releases calling on four House members to join with Republicans to join the overrride. They are Reps. Dewey Hill of Whiteville, Timothy Spear of Creswell, William Brisson of Dublin and Frank McGuirt of Wingate. Brisson and Democratic Rep. Jim Crawford were the two Democrats who had voted with the Republicans to pass the bill.

You know, I've tried to be Mr. Pragmatic, and not be so critical of Democrats who jump off the Platform from time to time. But if you choose to side with the GOP Chairman instead of your Party's Governor, that "D" after your name is a sham.

Robin Hayes "running hard" for GOP Chairman

When he's not busy shooting innocent ducks, that is:

“I am running hard,” Hayes told staff writer Barbara Barrett on Tuesday. Hayes said that along with visiting grandchildren and spending time hunting and fishing, he’s been working recently on a campaign to replace Tom Fetzer, the outgoing state GOP chairman, who has said he plans to resign in January.

“I can help people stay focused on the goal, encourage them, help them make fund-raising calls,” he said. “I’ve enjoyed almost 20 years in office.”

I'm sure you did. It would almost be worth him winning just to have such odd statements to quote...

Fetzer out, zombie Robin Hayes lurches into picture

Not-gay GOP Chairman sez family comes first:

"This is an entirely personal decision on my part," Fetzer said. "As a new husband and new father, I have other priorities now, which I need to tend to. As I told the [Republican] Executive Committee, I lived the first 54 years of my life for me, and now I'm living it for someone else."

Fetzer told The Associated Press that former U.S. Rep. Robin Hayes has indicated that he would seek the chairman's job. Hayes lost his seat in 2008 to Democrat Larry Kissell.

The opening bout will pit Robin Hayes vs Chad Adams, with the headliner being Tom Fetzer vs Pat McCrory. During the intermission, security breaks up a scuffle between Art Pope and Robert Morgan. Hot dogs are 2 for $3.00 while they last.

Just when you thought it was safe: Robin Hayes, in 3d

One more thing to watch out for when the propaganda wave crashes over us:

The American Majority Project (AMP) is the new kid on the block, a 527 group -- meaning it is allowed by law to accept unlimited contributions -- formed in recent days with the backing of Republican heavyweights such as former Florida governor Jeb Bush and an advisory board that includes former congressman Robin Hayes (N.C.), former Republican National Committee chairman Mike Duncan and GOP superlawyer Ben Ginsberg.

I was wrong again

Dear friends in Chapel Hill,

It seems like forever ago that I called so many of you, as I've done too many times, to help with a fundraising event here in Orange County. In this case, I wanted to introduce you to a new candidate in North Carolina's 8th District, Larry Kissell. After talking with Larry several times, I concluded that he was a thoughtful person worthy of your financial support. Not only that, but he had proved to me that he would listen. I had told him that he needed a more professional photograph for his website, and he took action on that immediately.

Nearly a hundred good people responded to my request by writing checks or attending a very successful event at my home. Larry wasn't shy about taking the cash, nor was he reluctant to engage. He wrote scores of posts here, including one entitled Betrayal begins with trust. Truer words were never spoken.

So when I learned today from Fredly that Kissell will be a "no" vote on healthcare reform, I had to do some deep soul-searching. And while my dear friend and blogging partner Betsy is willing to give Larry the benefit of the doubt one more time, I am not.

Kissell in top tier in money raised

First, let's get this out of the way - Robin Hayes is not running for congress. I don't care how many times he says he plans to run if nobody steps up to challenge Larry. He raised $644, has about $18,000 on hand and carries $180,000 in campaign debts. Ignore him.

Quarterly FEC reports are in and Larry Kissell is in the top tier of North Carolina Congressional incumbents from both parties in money raised for the quarter. Only Etheridge and McIntyre outraised Kissell and only by about $10,000 each. He is in the middle tier for cash on hand.

That's big news for those of us used to the press and pols criticizing Larry's fundraising ability. Hopefully, he can line the war chest even more before a challenger files and starts raising money. Like his politics 100% or not, it's important to protect our incumbents and it's nice if they have a huge head start so we can put our energy and money into helping Democratic challengers.

Kissell Set to Succeed Where Hayes Failed - Update/Video

Rep. Larry Kissell, NC-08 went in front of the rules committee today to try to fulfill promises made to American textile workers by his predecessor, Robin Hayes. With less than three full weeks under his belt, Kissell proposed an amendment to the committee and his amendment is included as part of the stimulus bill. Tomorrow, that amendment will be debated on the House floor.

The amendment would require the Department of Homeland Security purchase uniforms from American textile companies. Hayes tried and failed to get similar legislation through the House. You will find the full amendment here.
