Scams
USAA reports worst military family scams of 2011.
Submitted by Stan on Thu, 12/22/2011 - 8:25pmFor anyone not familiar with USAA, it is an Insurance, and now Banking, establishment created years ago to cater to US Military officer's needs. It has since expanded to serve all military and their families. It is, in my opinion, one of finest companies in America. Their member's periodical recently reported that the number 1 scam against the military in 2011 was a financing company associated with a national retail chain that purchased electronics equipment at warehouse clubs and then charged soldiers quadruple the retail price thru both inflated pricing and contracts filled with extraneous charges and shocking interest rates.
USAA did not name the companies, but stated that the NY Attorney General filed charges and caused the companies to settle many debts.
Doing a little searching on the net reveals that the companies are apparently based in Fayetteville, NC, with ties to a company in NY...which is likely how the NY Attorney General was able to act.

I'm in – I'm running for re-election!
Submitted by Elaine Marshall on Thu, 10/20/2011 - 9:06amTwo years ago, I made a decision to run for United States Senate because I believed that we, as a country, need to focus less on powerful special interests and more on middle class families and small business owners. While we came up just short in our fight last year, those very same issues that inspired me to run then still exist now.
That's why I'm proud to announce today that I have decided to run for re-election as North Carolina's Secretary of State!

Where do your charitable contributions go?
Submitted by Stan on Sun, 01/03/2010 - 9:17amAn editorial today in the Wilmington Star News on charitable giving and where the monies actually go. Stunning to learn that often less than 10% goes to the intended recipients. Kudo's to Elaine Marshall for doing the report. Read it and weep.
