Let It Snow !

We have gotten 8" so far. Actually, I am learning how to post a picture and this is kind of a test on doing that. Wish me luck.

Be safe this weekend, all

Just on the outside chance someone has not seen the weather forecast for the next few days for our beautiful state, we've got a good amount of snow coming in. Oh, and check out the forecast for Christmas eve! Could we have a "White Christmas"?

Can I say "Christmas" here? :)

Everyone drive careful!

On Snow And Cameras, Or, Health Care Gets A Day Off

Whether you are deliriously happy, incredibly sad, or still uncertain about how you feel about what has emerged from the House this weekend, it’s probably safe to say that one thing everyone is...is sick of the whole thing.

Of course, we’re far from done—but just to give us all a break, I’m going to abruptly change the subject.

I have a Flip Video camera—which I am still getting used to—and last night we ran up the hill to Snoqualmie Pass, Washington, ostensibly to test the camera’s low-light capabilities...but really so we could drive around in all the fresh new snow.

There’s plenty of time to get back to the political wars in a bit; but for right now let’s head up the mountain, see some cool stuff, talk about what the camera can—and can’t—do, and, just for fun, we’ll answer the age-old Seattle question: “how long does it take to find three places that sell espresso at the top of a mountain pass in the middle of nowhere?”

NC Weather Watch

How's the weather in your neck of the woods? Here in Moore County it's a cold and rainy day. The ground is saturated and pools of standing water dots our yard. We went out earlier to load up on bird, human and dog food for our possible snow day.

My daughter who lives in Rock Hill, SC (aka: South Charlotte) just called to say it's started to snow there.

Keep us posted on your area.

On Wild Weather, Or, A Note To California

In our last conversation there was some mention of snow in my part of the world (the western slope of Washington’s Cascade Mountains); but all that water has instead been falling as rain the past few days...washing away all the snow that had accumulated in the lowlands...and much of the several feet of snow that has fallen in the mountains over the past two weeks.

The result of all that water, all at once (many areas saw more than 10 inches of rain in 48 hours), has been a flood event unlike any I’ve seen in decades of living in this area.

The Girlfriend’s Mother lives in San Diego (where she has had her own series of exciting emergency events); and to keep her reassured I sent along a note describing how it went—and for quite a few of us, how it’s still going.

By the time I was done I realized I’d written a story—and that’s what I have for you today, Gentle Reader...a few words about Big Weather and how we deal with it.

In which snow and rain combine to create a story of legendary weather.

Monday Morning Open Thread

My children have missed playing in the snow the past couple of years. Yesterday we had our doors and windows open and enjoyed the beautiful spring-like weather. I miss having at least a few weeks of winter. Here's a pic from my archives. My girls have the Carolina hats on. The rest are friends from the neighborhood. Great kids, every single one.

....and yes, those are boogie boards you see. We are all beach people - not ski people. They were also known to sled in laundry baskets.

What's on your mind this morning? Any good links to pass on? Any happy news?
