French-Speaking Mitt Romney Attack Ad Targets SC Voters.

AmericanLP released its first TV ad, “French Romney” back in December. This ad showed footage of Mitt Romney speaking French during the 2002 Olympics. In text, the ad scrolled verbatim quotes from Romney stating all of his past liberal positions on controversial issues in a way that is similar to movie translations. Talking Points Memo called it “the funniest ad of the primaries” and “reminiscent of Woody Allen’s ‘What’s Up, Tiger Lily?’” The ad was showcased in most major media outlets and was aired on CBS News. The video also quickly went viral with more than 100,000 views on YouTube.

The purpose of the ad was twofold: 1. we wished to spotlight the anti-intellectualism of the GOP and mock its disdain for internationalism and 2. we were mocking Romney for all of his flip-flops over the years from liberal positions to conservative positions.

Free Photo ID Card: $28. Another Suppressed Vote? Priceless.

As states implement their new voter photo ID rules, a few minor hitches have begun to appear. In South Carolina, right next door:

We have 178,000 registered voters without current state-issued picture identification cards. We have ample record of persons who are unable to get certified copies of their birth certificates (a requirement to get those new IDs), and due to various reasons the state Republicans never bothered to consider, apparently. For example, you need a birth certificate to get a South Carolina ID card; yet, you need a valid ID card to get a copy of your South Carolina birth certificate. How's that for a Catch 22?

It's Friday....have a laugh!

Bill Cosby - Understanding Southern

And feel free to jibber-jabber here...

What are they smoking in the Eighth Congressional District?!

Well, now you know.

With all the national, statewide, and regional headscratching going on about North Carolina politics, namely in the Eighth Congressional District's 2010 Republican primary runoff election, it should come as no surprise that in Richmond County, the heart of the district, Sheriff deputies have discovered 60,000 marijuana plants.

Genetically-modified trees marching North

Just because you can do a thing, it doesn't necessarily follow that you should:

The commercial paper industry's plans to plant forests of genetically altered eucalyptus trees in seven Southern states have generated more cries from critics worried that such a large introduction of a bioengineered nonnative plant could throw natural ecosystems out of whack.

ArborGen, a biotechnology venture affiliated with three large paper companies, got U.S. Department of Agriculture approval last month for field trials involving as many as 250,000 trees planted at 29 sites during the next few years. Much smaller lots of the genetically altered trees have been growing in some of the states for years.

Virginia on track to become the next South Carolina

Looks like the Old Dominion and the Palmetto State have us Tar Heels caught in the ol' squeeze play. Adulterers and bigots to the south, birthers and morons to the north. I sure hope this crap isn't contagious.

SC to nix tax on terrorism

You gotta love those Palmetto People, especially the ones making public policy. Up until now, revolutionaries and terrorists in South Carolina have had to register with the government and pay a five-dollar fee. The legislature is going to dump those draconian requirements. Republican Party leaders must have gotten worried that they'd land in hot water with all their revolutionary tea-baggin' rhetoric.

Ignorance and stupidity south of the border

You have to hand it to South Carolina. They take their racist pride seriously, even when it means they have to forfeit millions in certain revenues, as happened this week.

The ACC has shifted its baseball championship from Myrtle Beach to Durham in 2011 and 2013, acting on objections to South Carolina's prominent display of the Confederate flag.

Whenever I get discouraged about circus that passes for law-making in Raleigh, all I need to do is look south of our border and I don't feel quite so bad.

Vernon Robinson is an Obama fan?

ok guys, I kept this a secret for a long time because I thought it might hurt the Obama campaign, but I feel like I can come out with it now it seems Obama has the nomination locked...
Vernon Robinson did door-to-door canvassing for Obama!
If you don't know who vernon Robinson is, he's about the nastiest politician you can imagine. There are plenty of stories about him on BlueNC, including one by Betsy.
Anyway, on to my "revelation".
