An interesting story from The Mountaineer in Waynesville about a high school sports official who found a creative way to increase his pay for working baseball games.

I have been a soccer referee for several years. I didn't know getting a raise was so easy!

There's a new offense in high school football. It's illegal under NCAA and NFL rules, but it's not as non-traditional as formations under arena football rules. This offense is called the A-11. It's announced objective is to allow smaller players in smaller schools with talent an opportunity to compete with teams from schools with more big players.

It's controversial because football is a bastion of tradition. Change comes very incrementally.

I offer a simply proposal to "level the playing field" especially at the J.H.S. and H.S. level: just handicap the big guys with weight like horses are handicapped.

When it comes to sports, this is that time of year I most dislike. This is when those thin walls that separate college and professional athletics come down and we start seeing dollar figures instead of majors and year in school in the descriptive clauses of individuals who’ve played loyally for our chosen schools.

I see that SD cant be bothered to start one of these unless her team is playing.

How bout that red BLUE suit?
